Accessories- Super Specs

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

‘Geek Chic’ is still alive and going strong. Looking just as good on the girls as it does on the boys. Go large (I feel that I’m writing that on most of the posts) and choosing heavy frames or super scale shows a commitment to the look.

Spec-tacular!

Graphics- the state of the Union

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Its a strange phenomenon in these uncertain times, but the Union Jack and imagery of our monarchy seem to be the new subject choice for artists,  fashion and interior designers, giving these motifs a whole new lease of life. I’m not sure that its to do with any particular upsurge in pride, since we are in a bit of a pickle at the moment. If you’ve any insights on this look I’d love you to leave a comment and shed some light on the matter.

Anyhow, regardless of the motivation, we really like results. There will be more on this in our next quarters ‘Graphics’ report. If you’re interested in subscribing to this then drop us a line- blog@blinklondon.com.

Blink Social- ‘Eonnagata’

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

OMG! We’ve just come out of Sadlers Wells, and we’re feeling a little giddy with excitement. “Blink” has just been to see ‘Eonnagata’ which proved to be one of the most stylish spectacles that we have ever witnessed. Actually, the only thing that comes close is an Alexander McQueen show, and that’s a coincidence because the genius McQueen collaborated on the costumes for this monochrome extravaganza.

Staring the superb Sylvie Guillem, brilliantly talented Russell Maliphant and extraordinary Robert Lepage. This story recounts a unique moment in history in an equally unique way. This is the tale of Chevalier D’Eon, of the court of Louis XV, who was of indeterminate sex throughout his/her life and was, well, a transvestite spy quite frankly. All true!

We sadly don’t have any shots for you, but have a look at Sadlers Wells website and the Telegraph’s reviews for a little taster.

We’re feeling for intregue, Orientalism, and a stark monochrome colour palette after tonight’s performance.

Details- Beaux Bows

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I guess this could be the absolute opposite to the ‘studs’ story, although these bows aren’t super sweet. Some are quite coy, but many have a certain architectural or modern quality. Scale is super important. If in doubt, go large!

This is the perfect finishing touch. Just treat yourself like a life size gift to the world of fashion with a beautiful bow on top, or round the middle, or decorating your ankle, or on your bag…

Denim- what a doll

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

On our recent trip to Paris we spotted these in the window of the Marais branch of Lee jeans.  We had to share these with you. How darling are these cowboy dolls? We think ‘very’ is the appropriate answer. This adds a quirky and sweetly retro edge to a very simple window scheme, giving the store the perfect mood for this super cool and creative area.

Now, can we get a mini yee haa!

Details- you stud!

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Decoration has lost some of its decorum and embraced the dark side. We love the edgy touch that studs bring, taking a style from prissy to punky. This works back to the self styled and customized story that’s been emerging, as well as reflecting yet another touch of the 80′s.

Graphics- A favourite from Berlin

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

We have just issued our Summer edition of the “Graphics” report. Phew, what a whopper! It’s probably our report with the broadest appeal. There’s inspiration for T shirt brands, labeling and packaging designers, advertising, signage and probably a whole lot more that we haven’t even thought of yet…

Here’s one of our favourites from the report, care of our beautiful Berlin based Blinker. We love the humour as well as the stunning colour and brilliant execution.

Accessories- Birds of a Feather

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Hmm, we see a common thread emerging here…

We have another wildlife related story to tell you. This one is about how birds of a feather flock together. These ornithological accessories are delightful. They have sent us all a twitter and we’re sure you twitchers will be too!

Animal Magic

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

In past month or so, we have seen a veritable zoo pass before our eyes in the windows of London’s stores. This seems to be the fashionable display theme of choice. We think this kooky and kitsch look at animal life has added a little sneaky smile behind all the serious style statements. Grrrr!

Accessories- Tip Top Turbans

Monday, June 1st, 2009

It’s a quirky look, and not for everyone, but we think these ladies are rocking the turban brilliantly. This was a very popular look in 30′s Hollywood, and popped up a little in the late 70′s/ early 80′s, but since then it was relegated to the back of the style arsenal. Then Prada showed the turban in their Spring ’07 collection, and slowly but surely it’s coming back on to the fashion agenda.
