Blink Social- Coming Home

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

We were very lucky to have been invited for a tipple at Home House last week. Our dear friend, Christine, signed us in to this very grown up members club for an evening of sipping champagne in stunning Georgian splendor. We were super keen to see the newly added extension of Home House into the building next door. In our opinion, the highlight of this new section is the brilliant Zaha Hadid designed bar.

The contrast of the old- all of the interiors detailing present in this perfectly renovated Robert Adams building, with the super new- this signature sinuous shaped glossy fibre glass structure; creates the most amazing impact. It serves to heighten the beauty of both.  This is a very fashion-y moment, bringing together what would first appear disparate eras, inspirations and aesthetics, to create something utterly new and exciting. A very brave, very smart move we think.

Blink Discoveries- David Koma

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We spotted these amazing dresses in the window of Browns Focus and were intrigued to more about their creator, David Koma.

David Koma graduated from Central Saint Martins in March 2009. His graduate collection of beautifully detailed body con styles has to be one of the most accomplished that we have seen for some time. We think this will be a name on ever fashion insiders wish list. We’re really excited to see how his style progresses over the season’s ahead.

Blink Social- I’m so Dizzee

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

We always have a great time at the Roundhouse, and last Wednesday was no exception. The Electric Proms is a brilliant annual event in its forth year, bringing together a line up of amazing, if slightly random, musical talents. Each gets one night to showcase original new material or arrangements created specifically for the event.

We were lucky enough to score tickets for the night that Dizzee Rascal was performing. Featuring an orchestra, choir and rock band, it was an amazing evening. The energy was high, the venue was packed and the star of the night delivered on every level. We loved the hillbilly style variation on ‘Bonkers’ and were amazed as he rapped over the band rocking out Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Details- In Tiers

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Hopefully tears of joy for these delightful tiers, frills and ruffles. Volume is taking a new turn and we love it when its zoned through considered positioning of ruffles and frills. This adds a new dimension to silhouette in a really exciting way. Build up layers of texture. Play with sheers and lace mixed in with other materials.

Some of these styles have the look of being created on the stand by a pin wielding designer who has spent hours contemplating a toile. If only there was time to work like that!

Details- Broader than Broadway

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Yes, this post is all about shouldering fashion responsibility. Its a heavy weight to bear, but we’re sure you’re already rocking wide enough shoulders to cope with it.

There are many ways to interpret this shoulder focused trend, and not all involve Dynasty inspired padding. Here a few shots that we’ve been collecting over the past little while, waiting for an opportune moment to drop them onto the blog. This is a really exciting change in silhouette. So, dig deep for your inner Crystal Carrington and pick the look that works best for you.

Graphics- Very Handy

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

On our travels we’ve been spotting these great hands popping up and seizing our attention all over the place.  Its a great motif that can symbolize all sorts of things, but pointing seems to be the majority choice.  Is that a Jacko inspired victory ‘V’ from Swildens?

There’ll be more in our next edition of the quarterly ‘Graphics’ report issued next month. Contact your nearest agent if you’d like to see the full report.

Blink Travels- Great Danes

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Here’s a little postette from my recent trip to Copenhagen. We’ve renamed it the “City of Beauty” and that’s a name that applies on so many levels, let me tell you. Its my second trip to Copenhagen and I fell in love with the place, the people and the lifestyle all over again. What could you possibly fault about a city were people can leave their bikes unlocked all day long and still find them where they left them?

Aside from the joy of safe bicycles, Copenhagen has a deliciously laid-back vibe about it. The buildings, the brands, the people are all beautiful but in an unselfconscious way. We came back with slightly cricked necks after staring at all the beautiful boys!

This trip we stayed at Hotel Fox. Its not only well priced in a very pricey city (the one negative point), but it’s also centrally located and really very cool. The bedrooms are all uniquely designed and decorated by artists. My small but perfectly formed room was ‘The Traveler’, designed by a Brisbane based design collective who opted for a dreamlike, calm neutral theme. My colleague was given the ‘Red Rum’ which was an intensely red scheme from a Norwegian creative. It was only as we checked out that the receptionist informed us that the room’s name spelled ‘murder’ backwards! Thank goodness he waited until we were leaving…

Blink Social- Offset Festival

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Sorry for the delay in bringing you this post, but we thought you’d want to get London Fashion Week out of the way before we moved on to other subjects…

So, back to another festival. This time its the turn of the ‘Offset Festival’. Our intrepid “Blink” reported, Tilly, brought us back this great coverage. This festival is located in Hainault Forest, just outside of London but the beautiful forest location feels a million miles away from city life. This is quite an alternative event, with true rock festival roots and a brilliant line-up. Nothing fluffy or pop about it, but not too earnest either.

Here are some great looks from the festival goers. There is something very creative going on here. We love how these people have totally bucked traditional festival outfits for something almost more intellectual and definitely more chic. Inspiring.

Details- Jazz it Up

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Our brilliant “Blink” contributor, Amy, came back with these shots from a recent trip to Brighton, our favourite seaside fashion destination. The androgynous look in accessories, kicked off by the classic brogue last Autumn, is still going strong. These shoes look a little softer and a little lighter, closer to a classic ‘Jazz shoe’ than previously seen. We particularly love the bi-colour ‘Correspondent’ style look. These are truly fabulous flatties.
