Friday Fun- A big Ray of Sunshine

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, we were striding down Bond Street, on our way to Dover Street, when I thought I had fallen into a daydream. You see, some of my daydreams do include the hunk of manly joy that is Ray Winstone… but that’s quite another story.

The Halcyon Gallery, on New Bond Street, is wrapped in this HUGE portrait of Ray Winstone painted by Mitch Griffiths whilst the new gallery space is completed. This beautiful artwork was part of an exciting exhibition of Griffiths’ new work which was held at the Halcyon Gallery on Bruton Street.

Friday Fun: Heavy Petting at Louis Vuitton

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Okay, well at least the title of this post made you stop and have a look. Sorry there’s no actual heavy petting to brighten up your Friday!

We spotted these animal themed bags in the window of Louis Vuitton’s new Bond Street flagship. It was lovely to see that a brand this luxurious and high end still has time to be a little fun. The beautiful glass cloches added some gravitas and all the animals were really amazingly executed so LV shows us how to have a giggle and yet still retain utter poise and chic!

Enjoy and wishing you a wonderful weekend from the team at “Blink”!

Friday Fun- Wardrobe Share?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

At Camp Bestival, the only place to end the night  was Singstar’s Cocktails and Dreams tent, expertly and hilariously hosted by the amazing Cuban Brothers in various guises. Whilst sipping on some delicious cocktails and having a good wiggle along to the stellar soundtrack, I was transported back to a Bestival memory from last year.

Miguel Mantovani (the comedy genius, Mike Keat) was shaking the good stuff in this figure hugging harlequin number. It took me back to Paloma Faith at Bestival, sporting a very similar look. Miguel, have you been riffling through Paloma’s drawers?

If you love great music, super skilled breakdancing and humour of a grown up nature, you should really make plans to catch the Cubans. Check out their website for event details, or see them at their residency in Soho’s Floridita. Prepare to laugh until you cry/ pee/ faint…

Friday Fun: We’ve got you pegged

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Harvey Nichols‘ windows are looking completely fabulous this week. Back in the 90’s, when this store was THE fashion destination and Selfridges or Liberty were merely functional ‘department stores’, Harvey Nics windows were an event in themselves. Winning awards for their brilliantly creative approach. I think I could be right in saying that they were one of the innovators of using store window space as a totally creative area, building fantasy fashion playgrounds where the product was almost an aside. We think the current VM team is doing a sterling job in replicating that excitement.

The current scheme features this amazing dress constructed wholly from wooden pegs (hence the post title!), alongside a piano that seemed to be made from cassette tapes and a sports car made from battalions of tiny plastic soldiers. Why? Who cares! It looks fabulous and that’s got to be 99% of what fashion is about.

Friday Fun- Good Advice

Friday, July 16th, 2010

We spotted this in the super luxurious Designer show room in Liberty. We hope that they’ll forgive is for getting our camera out in store, but this was just so irresistible. Its typical of the innovative, humorous and quirky VM style for this stand out store. Very English-ly eccentric. Anyway, there are some sayings here that will suit many of your experiences this weekend so we thought this was perfect for our ‘Friday Fun’ slot.

Enjoy and happy Friday!

Friday Fun- Retro Sexy

Friday, July 9th, 2010

We’ve decided to add a new feature. A spot we can add things that are less serious (not that our posts are that intellectual!) and perhaps a bit more random. Hopefully there’s still an element of inspiration in there for you.

The inaugural post is dedicated to a car boot sale discovery. Just before our short Summer break we came across a stash of fantastic late 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s ‘romantic’ novels. These are books that I used to see my Mum reading when I was a kid. They were passed around from Mum to Mum with a knowing nod and a twinkle in the eye. Now I’m old enough to read them myself I understand the sneaky winks that went along with trading these paperbacks. My goodness they were steamy! Along with Shirley Conran’s ‘Lace’ and Jackie Collins‘ ‘The Bitch’, we found ‘The Love Machine’ by Jacqueline Susann who also wrote ‘Valley of the Dolls’. I fell in love with the cover as much as the contents so wanted to share it’s retro sexy look with you too…

When looking into Jacqueline Susann for this post, we came across this amazing YouTube clip of Judy Garland being interviewed and wardrobe fitted for Susann’s most famous book and then hit movie, ‘Valley of the Dolls’. There are some really fantastic looks. Hope you like it.

Happy Friday, Lucy
