I have a personal problem. It’s something that some people who are close to me know about, but it is something I try to hide as much as possible. It is getting harder and harder to deal with, so I have decided it might be a good time to share my struggle with you.
Since I was about 21 years old, I have been dealing with a increasing amount of grey hair. I am now in my 40’s (gulp, now you know!) and it is getting rather out of hand. As a brunette with thick hair that grows exceptionally fast I am currently colouring my roots about every two weeks. That is A LOT of hair dye! The worst of it is right on my hairline where my hair naturally falls into a parting. Thanks for that additional fun twist Mother Nature!
As the grey is getting stronger, my will to resist it is getting weaker and I’ve thinking about giving up the battle and embracing the change. This is where the trouble starts…
Yes, fashion favourites, Iris Apfel and Linda Rodin both look beyond fabulous with their natural hair colour but I AM NOT OLD ENOUGH to embrace my grey in the same way that they do, with any level of comfort.
Conversely I am not young enough to rock it in a ‘cool grey’ way like these beauties. This is a tricky middle space between both looks, both ages that I am currently being bemused by. Gosh, I feel more like the girls below- but my hair is clearly feeling more like the wonderful women above…
If any of you have a clue on what I should do that doesn’t involve shaving my head or permanently wearing a hat, I’d be beyond grateful!
