In March BHS was cut loose from the Arcadia fold, sold for a single shiny quid. That all obviously happened a little too close to the AW’15 Press Day planning so the brand was still shown under the Arcadia umbrella- and I’m pleased that it was otherwise this impressive collection of home product would have passed me right by.
Those in the know already hit BHS up for great lighting. That department is an, um, well, beacon (soz) in an otherwise murky and depressing department store. I must admit that lighting is the only BHS home product that I have ever given the time of day. I think that the lovely folks at BHS must know that it’s their best known offer because the press day set up opened with a room filled with their new lighting collection.
Impressive, innovative, well designed wouldn’t you say? And these were just a small part (my favourites) from the product on show. Well, at that point I thought I had probably seen the best of it but thought I’d just peak around into the next room to see what else they were showing. Uh, wow is the only word that came to mind.
Every single piece in those shots is BHS. How fabulous is that leather and metal chair? It also comes in black on black too by the way. I could have been in Anthropologie or a very lovely independent boutique that mixed vintage with new. And that is just a small corner of the products on display. There was wonderful bedlinen with a distinctly Bluebellgray feel, premium modular furniture, tableware…
But dear BHS, why can’t we see it like this anywhere? It doesn’t look like this in-store on Oxford Street and it doesn’t even look like this on your website. Please help us to understand that you are far more fabulous than we ever knew. New bosses, new BHS perhaps- but don’t loose this fantastic and exciting home product.
