Gosh, we’re awfully sorry to have left you hanging on for more about our kitchen design project. It’s just that we are so very easily distracted by our first love which is obvs fashion. To remedy the situation we hope you enjoy this post, along with a couple of others just to round off our content on this really exciting project.
So, you have seen where we started, the inspiration and planning, the Dowsing and Reynolds custom lighting, that fabulous pimped Ikea step stool and those oh so gorgeous poured concrete worktops. Now it’s the turn of the key additional material that elevated our simple Ikea cabinet choice into something far more innovative and interesting: the birch plywood.
This was the first image that I spotted and fell in love with, leading me to discover several other great kitchen schemes that included ply. I wanted something that would be as neutral as possible, less ‘figured’ looking than this, but still naturally varied, bringing in some warmth and something kind of ‘crafted’ to the overall look. And of course, those stunning, crisp and even stripes that good quality, high end ply has. We sourced some birch ply that answered the brief on every level, as well as being resilient in the steamy kitchen environment.
Stefano, my carpenter/kitchen fitter created custom cupboards, inserts and shelves that not only made maximum use of the small kitchen space, they also added a ‘made-to-measure’ uniqueness to this refit.
