“Blink” Retail: Queen Kamali gets even more Active

Friday, September 12th, 2014

If you read my post about Surviving LFW by escaping to The Savoy for some calm, quiet time, you will have spotted that when advising you to try The Savoy’s pool I suggested donning a Norma Kamali swimsuit for the occasion. Well, I figured that 1) you’re a fashion conscious individual, 2) you are rather sophisticated and 3) that you appreciate timeless yet brilliant design if you’re someone who would appreciate the joys that The Savoy has to offer.

I design a couple of swimwear collections as part of our consultancy service, and I have to say that through my years of researching the best of the best in swimwear, Kamali is pretty much Queen. She has built a decades long career around doing marvellously innovative things with jersey. In a wonderfully fatalistic fashion moment, the same day that I posted about wearing Norma Kamali to complete your restorative lengths in style, I also came across a whole new and exciting collection of Kamali styles in Selfridges. I think this must be a recent addition as I haven’t noticed it before.

If you train, or if just like to look like you train, then this is the collection for you. Reminding me of Hot Gossip meets High Disco this collection features graphically go faster style ‘spliced’ inserts, either in mesh, high sheen or bright metallic silver and I want it ALL!!!!

And who but Norma Kamali could get away with having a maxi dress in an active collection?

Pure perfection. Do take a look in Selfridges or at Kamali’s online shop as there’s lots more to this offer including some fabulous swimwear for you to wear during your trip to The Savoy!

“Blink” Stylish Steals: ASOS Summer Sale Score!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014

Who doesn’t love a bargain? ASOS is pretty much bargain central, whether it’s sale time or not and so is a regular haunt for me and the rest of the Blink London team. Whenever ASOS send one of their well placed marketing emails we are suckers every time. The last time we were totally distracted from the work in hand was when we got the email telling us that ASOS was on sale. Great news after their devastating warehouse fire. Well what more could we do than support them by placing an order or two?

This beauty just arrived, in perfect time to be tried on and then added to my pile of holiday packing. The pretty ‘Aztec Scarf Print Beach Dress’ was just what I needed to complete my holiday wardrobe and at £7.50 in the sale (down from an already reasonable £25) it’s even more gorgeous! I’ll be throwing it on over my bikini and then adding my  beaded belt to add a little more shape. Sorted.

“Blink” Retail: Heidi Klein and every Body

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

Well, it’s June- not that you’d know it by looking out of the window at a drizzly and grey London. Undoubtedly the sun is shining somewhere and we’ll be heading off to find it imminently. At Blink Towers we are on hols for a week from Friday and as much as we’ve all be hitting the gym and refusing the carbs, why not embrace everything we can to help us look our absolute best whilst wearing pretty much the least that’s acceptable in public. No, I am not talking about full body lipo. I am in fact referring to the amazing ‘My Body’ range from Heidi Klein.

Yes, Heidi Gosman and Penny Klein have come to our rescue by creating a collection of swimwear styles that are almost magical (NB: please note that they don’t actually have magical powers but are just brilliantly designed and constructed). With my very own eyes I saw how these styles made a super trim and very gorgeous model look even trimmer and more gorgeous. This is shapewear made sexy. The HK team have worked hard to create a fifteen piece collection that lift, shape and contour whilst remaining flexible, comfortable and super stylish. Uh, what’s not to love about that?!?

Here are our particular favourite styles from this ‘My Body’ collection, featuring specifically tailored powermesh sections, moulded cups, additional support and well placed design features to enhance and flatter. I’ll be packing a few of these for sure.

“Blink” Retail: Arcadia Press Day AW’14- Topshop and Topman

Friday, May 16th, 2014

Here’s the final installment of our Arcadia Press event highlights. Topshop is a guaranteed inspirational stop off, but I think Topman is fast catching up in the style stakes. Exciting news for all you fashionable boys.

So, starting with Toppers, here are a few of my favourites from the collection on show. It was hard to put a finger on exactly where they were heading for Autumn as there was a very diverse selection on show, so I decided just to plump for some pieces that I thought look interesting and innovative. I love this coat, taking inspiration from the baseball/ Varsity jacket but taking the look forward into new proportions. These badge emblazoned jeans are gorgeous and quite similar to a pair from Mother that I’ve had my eye on. Finally that sparkly sporty number- by way of Tom Ford, by way of Geoffrey Beene as seen in this previous post.

The most exciting items on the Topman rail were those from the AW’14 Topman Design collection. Really lovely use of contrasting textures, surface effects and traditional, muted tones contrasted with bold colour. I will be having a look at a few of these myself come Autumn! Loving these heavy duty, super functional looking trainers/ hiking boots too. Great colour.

“Blink” Retail: Arcadia’s AW’14 Press Day- Accessories

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

Some more for you from the Arcadia AW’14 press event. This post is all about some rather lovely jewels, heels, bags and boots that were a particular highlight for me.

Starting things off are these very stylish jewels and stunning extra long, green suede boots from Dorothy Perkins. These were an extra surprise because I generally skip past this label- but I was quite literally stopped in my tracks by the really fabulous selection of accessories. I’ll be making a rare visit to good old DP’s come Autumn to see what will actually make it home with me.

Next comes Freedom at Topshop. Never knowingly understated, this is THE label to hit for statement pieces that are always super hot and brilliantly blingy. This little number looks like wearing it might replace a heavy lifting session at the gym! I love the smokey shade of the gems, adding a touch of sophistication to an otherwise extra OTT number.

Topshop‘s shoes and bags are some of the best on the high street. Reflecting all the hottest Autumn directions and covering all occasions in a really creative and innovative way, the shoes on show at the press day were really exciting. As were the bags. We’re still good to be rocking backpacks come Autumn. Yay!

Finally, we have Miss Selfridge. When they get it right, they really, really get it right, and this is generally it’s embellished, beaded and embroidered womenswear but also with some surprisingly good accessories. I really loved the styling of this blue gemmed style, sitting really beautifully on this blue/grey, high sheen print and pale lilac faux fur. It’s like an Autumn mood board all by itself.

“Blink” Retail: Arcadia’s AW’14 Press Day- W Collection by Wallis

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

The Arcadia press day is always a treat. It’s an amazing chance to get an insight into what the UK high street’s biggest fashion brands are saying for the season ahead. One that is always a pleasant surprise is the W Collection by Wallis.

I really rarely cross the threshold of a Wallis store. It’s not intended for me so that’s just fine. Perhaps this is why I always feel that the W Collection is a bit of a well kept secret. If you’re into flattering, innovative and well designed clothes with a rather chic edge, then this is the label for you to shop. It is grown up, but still with a sexy edge and enough reference to key fashion trends for it to feel thoroughly relevant. Here are my AW’14 favourites from the press event.

“Blink” Retail: Selfridges gets Reflective

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

We spotted this very clever theme in Selfridges’ designer womenswear department. What a cute way to label the mannequins and then the blown up version of the compact looks really striking too. Never short on innovation in product or display, Selfridges are looking really outstanding just now, and this also subtly reflects (ahem…) their current focus on the concept of beauty with the Beauty Project.

“Blink” Retail: J’adore Dior SS’14

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Dior brings the amazing flora draped set of the SS’14 show to their windows. Such a fabulous show. Such a stunning collection. And now one of the most beautiful window schemes that we’ve seen in some time.

Here’s the video of the SS’14 show so you can appreciate the atmosphere of the show space, as well as this amazing collection. We are huge Raf Simons fans. How he combines the handwriting of Dior with his own aesthetic, plus ensuring it feels utterly innovative and current, is a design dream come true.
