“Blink” Streetstyle: Jolie, Denmark

Monday, January 14th, 2013

We are proud to say that we have had a couple of our Copenhagen Fashion Week streetstyle shots featured in one of Denmark’s leading fashion and lifestyle magazines, Jolie. As a huge devotee of Danish style, this is a massive compliment. Yes, “Blink” is truly impacting the fashion world, well, worldwide!

“Blink” Travels: A Scarlet Staycation

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

Need encouragement to choose a ‘staycation’ rather than a long haul flight this Winter? Perhaps this will help…

The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall

The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall

I was treated to a wonderful weekend in Cornwall. The culinary delights of Padstow and Rock didn’t disappoint, but the highlight for me was a day spent at The Scarlet. This eco hotel combines 5 star style, a luxurious spa, super sweet staff and a stunning location. Next time, I’ll be booking in to stay here for as long as they’ll have me. I wonder if they take block bookings for the cliff top hot tub?

“Blink” Travels: Brooklyn Tins at Merci, Paris

Merci, Paris

Merci, Paris

The home and interiors sections at Merci is as inspiring for me as the fashion floors. This visit, Merci was showcasing some stunning trompe l’oeil style wallpaper that I fell hard for. Following on from the gorgeous Piet Hein Eek designed ‘Scrapwood’ wallpaper, the same company, NLXL, have collaborated with Merci to create a beautiful new line of wallpapers called ‘Brooklyn Tins’. This delivers the look of those stunning New York vintage interiors without the seriously hard work of cladding your walls with those embossed plates- if you can even find a source for them. I’m not completely sure this paper will work on my Victorian conversion, but if you inhabit a more spacious, well, space, then get thee Paris quick smart!

“Blink” Travels: Mais Oui Merci, Paris

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

As always the highlight of my Paris visit is arriving at Merci. It’s always the first stop on my shopping agenda. I just can never wait to see what they are focusing their creative attentions on. The central atrium, as you walk in to the store, is an ever changing zone where they create mini sets to share their current obsessions with you.

This time around they were having an Audrey Hepburn moment celebrating her iconic 60’s style, surrounded by leopard print accessories and the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’  being projected on to one of the walls- with french subtitles which seemed to suddenly make it even chic-er!

“Blink” Travels: Advice from Eames

Friday, October 12th, 2012

This stopped us in our tracks while we were fashion marching around Le Marais, salivating at the prospect of hitting the Isabel Marant shop. We passed a shop front plastered in black and white images of Eames designs, and featuring a quote that we think is just perfect for a Friday afternoon, as our minds all turn to the joy of a few days off over the weekend.

I am a huge Eames fan, but didn’t know this particular quote from Charles Eames, but it is my new favourite and I’m going to try and implement it from right now!

“Blink” Travels: Anya at Colette

Friday, October 12th, 2012

When Colette makes a strong fashion statement, the fashion world listens intently. The statement Colette was making in one of it’s main windows this week, was that it loves the kitsch chic of the fabulous Anya Hindmarch ‘Marano’ clutch bags.

These are packaged like something you were saving your pocket money up for so you could add some brilliant bling to your Sindy doll’s wardrobe. Looking like retro fun, but priced to be really quite a serious investment, these tread a pretty fine line from a taste perspective. I must admit that if money was no object, I would have bought all 3 versions of the ‘Marano’. There’s the fabulous snow globe version, the music box and one that lights up… but then I do love a bit of kitsch, and fashion is supposed to be fun sometimes.

“Blink” Travels: Lanvin + Laduree, Paris

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

So, we had a quick trip over to Paris yesterday. It had been a bit too long since my last trip to Gay Paree and I was really looking forward to it and not just because Paris is the home to my favourite shop in the whole wide world (more on Merci to come!). There are always some creatively inspiring surprises to be found, and the first one that we’d like to share with you is particularly delicious!

Lanvin‘s genius grand fromage, Alber Elbaz, has collaborated with supremo macaroon purveyors, Ladurée, to create a fashion fabulous box of macaroons- as if we needed more encouragement to stuff our faces with these super sweet treats!

Inside each box are eight pink toned macaroons, all of which are bubblegum-flavoured, apparently to remind us of the “bubble of childhood” according to Elbaz. Beautiful, whimsical, clever, inspirational- these macaroons are like a Lanvin collection magically transformed into something we can actually afford!

Blink Travels: Cutler and Gross arrives in Toronto

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Exciting times for one of my favourite British brands, Cutler and Gross. They are slowly but surely taking over the world and I was lucky enough to be in Toronto as they were about to open their newest outpost. I met the team as they were frantically unpacking the latest shipment of stock, including some wonderful archive styles. The cash desk was yet to arrive and the finishing touches were being put to their very own mini version of the ‘Museum’ room. Although the store has been designed by Toronto based ‘Fishtnk‘, it still maintains the Cutler and Gross signature look, including the picture wall of famous faces wearing C & G frames. The store is perfectly located in Yorkville, which is broadly speaking Toronto’s Knightsbridge, again reflecting the London flagship beautifully.

The doors open today (good luck Golta and team!) just in time for the world’s film industry and hottest movie stars to descend upon the city for the  Toronto International Film Festival.

You can read up on what Cutler and Gross have been up to in London here, and learn about Marie, their wonderful Design Director, here. Enjoy!

Blink Travels: Copenhagen Fashion Week, streetstyle- Part 2

Friday, August 12th, 2011

And here we are then at the end of our Copenhagen Fashion Week coverage. We hope that we have inspired you and maybe introduced you to a few new names of designer’s to look our for in the season’s ahead. Here’s our final hit of streetstyle from this city which is filled with disproportionate amounts of very beautiful and very stylish people. We really love the naturally laid back style captured in many of these sots. The soft tonality teamed with softly unstructured shapes feels really appealing.

Blink Travels: Copenhagen Fashion Week, streetstyle- Part 1

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

So from the shows themselves, we move on the the very stylish attendees of Copenhagen Fashion Week. Its always great to get streetstyle from Paris or Copenhagen, as well as London, to help reflect on the natural aesthetic differences that help express the true fashion heart of each city. Asta did a great job tracking down some really good looks. Thanks to her, and to all of you who stopped in your hectic Fashion Week schedules so she could take your picture.
