“Blink” Events: Bacardi Beginnings, and a beginning for you?

Monday, September 30th, 2013

Did you read our post in July about the Bacardi Beginnings event with Rudimental and Bipolar Sunshine? That was such a fantastic gig. It was also the beginning of us following this unique and exciting Bacardi project, focusing on bringing together new musical talents, new names and new approaches to music. The current stage in this fantastic project is a very special opportunity for anyone (yes, really anyone!) who is interested in remixing or producing tracks.

Sheffield born, superstar producer, remixer and DJ, Toddla T and Roses Gabor, emerging vocal talent who has worked with SBTRKT and Gorillaz, have come together to created a brand new track called ‘Pandora’s Box’. The track was released solely online though social networks. Innovatively it was released in sections, with new parts of the track only being ‘unlocked’ though fans adding tweets or facebook ‘likes’. The response was huge and it didn’t take long for the full track to be available. You can check it out here. We’re especially happy to be sharing this with you as both of these talents are local to “Blink” HQ, and we do like to support our particular little patch of London whenever possible.

So, now the track is unlocked, what does Bacardi Beginnings have in store for you? Well, hold on to your hats, budding musos. You now have the opportunity to create your own interpretation of the track, remixing and reworking it in any way you so please. The winner of the remix competition will be chosen by Toddla T, and the prize will include a production masterclass in the studio with the man himself, remix equipment and, finally, the winning track will be played at the next BACARDÍ Beginnings event. You can listen to and remix the track at

Speaking about the project, Toddla T says: “I’m encouraging people to do the most leftfield, mental stuff to it. Don’t be shy, don’t be precious, if you want to literally use the kick and the snare and one vocal piece go for it. In a remix I personally look for something that I can play so it’s not necessarily the technicality of it, it’s just how you’ve switched it to a different area. If people put extra vocals on it the brownie points are high. And have fun! You can push a remix as far as you want. Just go, go, go for it – do what feels right.”

Here’s some more about the project from both of the artists involved:

“Blink” Competition: Win tickets to the IWM Cecil Beaton exhibition

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

We hope that you enjoyed our review of the ‘Cecil Beaton: Theatre of War’ exhibition yesterday. It is truly inspirational, and as we are all about sharing inspiration with you, we have joined with the Imperial War Museum to give you the opportunity to win two tickets to attend this exhibition.

What we would like is to see a photograph that has inspired you. It could be one that you have taken or one from a famous photographer. We’d like to know why you find that image so inspirational, and also tell us where you took it/ saw it and who it is by. We are setting up a special Pinterest board for all of your submissions, and from there “Blink” and the IWM will choose our joint favourite.

The competition starts today and closes on 30th September, so get your skates on and email us your submissions to We cannot wait to see what you come up with.

I’m going to kick things off with this, one of my favourite images, which happens to be a Cecil Beaton. It’s of the stunning Audrey Hepburn, a everlasting style icon, wearing one of the Beaton designed costumes from My Fair Lady. The scene at the races is one of my all time favourite fashion moments.

“Blink” Competition: Teatum Jones Illustration Competition, the Results!

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Yesterday I was honoured to be one of the judges for the Teatum Jones competition to find a illustration to use on the menu for their Dorchester Fashion Tea AW’12 collection presentation in September. Have a look here at the post we wrote about the launch of the competition back in July.

Teatum Jones were inundated with really creative and diverse work from budding illustrators from around the globe. The standards were high, and I knew the other judges and I would have a really tough times choosing between all the great submissions. Our first task was to edit the selection down to our top five, and from there choose a winner. After much hot debate, we settled on a winner, and I’m delighted to say it was one of my favourites.

What stunning work, which will be featured on the menu for the Fashion Tea at The Dorchester on 18th September, and Evelina has also won a table for two for the event so she’ll be able to see the collection presented in the beautiful setting of The Promenade. The other four finalists will have their work printed on to canvases which will be shown in the Dorchester. I’m really looking forward to seeing them printed in large scale. I’m sure they’ll look amazing.

Congratulations to the winner, and all of the finalists.
