“Blink” Accessories: Piers Atkinson

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

The London Fashion Week exhibition at Somerset House is a great place for us to discover new names, new looks, new trends and directions each season, and the AW’13 exhibition held in February, did not disappoint. The first name that we would like to familiarize you with is Piers Atkinson. This is another deeply creative addition to the ever growing list of rather wonderful British milliners. Atkinson’s AW’13 aesthetic seems to perfectly blend Art Nouveau inspiration with Hitchcock heroine chic. I would get married purely to be able to wear this stunning lily inspired headpiece.

Piers launched his first millinery collection 2008, after perusing various other roles within the fashion industry. He has collaborated with various cutting edge designers like Ashish and Noki, and has dressed famously well hatted celebrities like Anna Dello Russo, Lady Gaga and Paloma Faith. Atkinson has also had pieces in the V&A’s ‘Hats: an Anthology by Stephen Jones’- so probably quite remiss of us to not have been au fait with his work until now!

“Blink” Events: ADR for H&M

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

My, oh my. H&M just keeps topping what you think is untoppable! The newest collaboration has been announced and they have pulled out all the stops to trump the amazingly successful Marni collaboration. They have hooked up withe fashion force of nature that is Anna Dello Russo. Currently Fashion Director at Large and creative consultant at Vogue Japan, Dello Russo is a self confessed fashion victim. She was famously described by photographer Helmut Newton as a “fashion maniac” and is the one to look to for extreme, intense and utterly bonkers super styled outfits that are endlessly documented by style photographers and broadcasted globally through the web.

Her most intense fashion passion is for accessories, so this is the focus of her collection for H&M. Available from 4th October, 2012, at the peak of the global fashion weeks, in around 140 stores worldwide and online, the collection features jewellery, sunglasses, shoes, bags and a trolley allowing H&M customers uniqueness at an affordable price.

“I am excited by this collaboration: this is the first time H&M have involved a Fashion Director in a special project. This is the sign of an important evolution in fashion, and I am both thrilled and humbled to be the one chosen to lead it. I wanted to create precious accessories that are impossible to find. As a stylist I know accessorization is essential: it is the personal touch to any outfit. With these pieces everybody can have fun, turning an ordinary day into a fantastic fashion day”, says Anna Dello Russo.

“It’s been extremely exciting to involve Anna Dello Russo in this project, something completely different from what we have done before. Anna has a fantastic eye and a strong taste, apart from being a veritable fashion icon. She produced an extravagant range of accessories that will get H&M customers and everyone in love with fashion excited. The collection is a celebration of excess, fantasy and decoration” says Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M.

I’d get sharpening your elbows from right now, in readyness for the scrum to get your paws on some of this!

London Fashion Week: Streetstyle, Androgynous aka Boyish Birds

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

It’s been a popular stylist’s theme in the heavy hitting fashion magazines for some time, as well as featuring on Dolce and Gabanna‘s catwalk for AW’11, but I have to say, aside from the brothel creeper, crepe sole shoes that we were reporting on last Summer, this London Fashion Week was the first time we have seen the boyish look adopted so fully in ‘real life’.

Slightly cropped tailored pants, crisp shirts, boyish sweaters, loafers or Chelsea boots, school boy jackets and the occasional satchel create a youthful and engagingly naive feel. Add a kitten heeled winkle picker and suddenly it feels 60′s Mod scooter girl. There was a more grown up edge to this too, as seen on Anna Dello Russo who seemed to be channeling a bit of Bianca Jagger/ Gucci in the hands of Tom Ford.
