“Blink” Retail: Bright Young Things, Selfridges

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

And here’s our final post about Selfridges Bright Young Things. We really love good graphic art, and there were a couple of windows that created such stunning graphic impact, with stark monochrome and energetic scale play, we just had to share them with you. First up is graphic designer, Archie McLeish, followed by the work of menswear designer, William Richard Green.

Now for some more womenswear and some menswear from Selfridges Bright Young Things event…

We love the look of Alice Lee‘s knitted dresses, brilliantly displayed so that you can view then in close up thought the magnifying lenses. Sorcha O’Raghllaigh created a very theatrical display. Menswear designer, Shaun Samson‘s Peruvian/ Mexican feeling blanket stripes were balanced with darkly dip dyed sections creating a really boldly graphic look.

So, here’s some more about the Bright Young Things windows at Selfridges, as promised. We have shot some of our favourites, but do get down there to have a look at all of the creativity on display.

We think that Adam Andrascik and Maarten van der Horst are two very exciting, new womenswear designers. We’ve already slipped on a couple of Andrascik’s gorgeously bold and graphic creations on the womenswear floor in Selfridges, and we didn’t even know we wanted to match our shoes with our tropical printed trousers until van der Horst showed us how utterly genius it looks.

Masc are also featured as one of the Bright Young Things selection, but we couldn’t get a good shot of their window. We spotted them at last London Fashion Week, at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Read more here. So delighted to see that they have been spotted by Selfridges. Congrats guys!

“Blink” Retail: Bright Young Things, Selfridges

For the second year running, Selfridges has provided an incredible opportunity for new, innovative and exciting designers and creatives in the UK. Everyone gets allocated their very own window space, with the ultra open brief to use the space in any way they choose that will best communicate their work. The result is wonderfully diverse, colourful and impactful. In addition to the huge expose that the windows will bring, each creative will be having their work sold in-store, via three pop up shops.

Here are a few shots from the event, plus some more later and tomorrow too, but we suggest you get down there to see the complete offer, in its entirety. We’ll be hitting the pop up shops to make an investment or two as well. These are set to be the big names of the very near future, so a purchase now could be a very wise investment, let alone incredibly supportive of this amazing talent. Bright Young Things indeed.

Blink Retail: Bright Young Things at Selfridges, Part 2

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

We hope that you enjoyed the first installment on the ‘Bright Young Things’ that we posted last month. Selfridges promised a new set of names for February and they did not disappoint. This is such an amazing opportunity for new creative names. Selfridges are behaving in a really altruistic manner, and we think they are setting a great example for other retailers who seem to just repeatedly focus on known and established ‘safe’ labels.

This month’s selection is a diverse group of styles, handwriting and disciplines. Here are some shots of our favourites and they include some names that we are familiar with (we have featured Yang Du on the blog before) and lots that we haven’t come across before but will certainly look into some more. Have a look at Selfridges website to learn more about each of the designers, and be inspired!

Blink Retail: Bright Young Things at Selfridges

Selfridges is keeping the other fabulous fashion mega-stores on their toes with a strong commitment to creative retailing, innovation and the pursuit of exciting new brands. We were delighted to see that they had quickly flipped out of sale mode and embraced the new year with a crop of shiny new talent showcased in the January store windows.

Titled ‘Bright Young Things’, Selfridges has dedicated 20 separate windows to 20 young designers and artists. They have called this “the gift of a window to the world – a giant calling card that will be seen by over one million people every week.” That’s a pretty impressive gift to give these emerging talents. Items from these designers are available in pop up locations in-store and on-line too. There are 10 more names to be showcased in February. We can’t wait to see who they have selected to support.

Here are our favourites from January’s crop. Have a look on Selfridges website for more details on each designer.
