It’s almost LFW again! How did that come around so quickly? We have planned a few outfits and RSVP’d to some amazing shows and if the weather just warms up a little bit, I think we’re on for a very, very exciting time.
We have a pre LFW treat for you, as if you weren’t over excited enough already! In advance of their collection presentation on Saturday 18th February in the beautiful Heritage Suite of the iconic store, Liberty, Teatum Jones have allowed us to share with you an EXCLUSIVE insight into the AW ’12 collection!
Here’s what they have to say about the inspiration behind this collection:
“TEATUM JONES AW12 EXPLORES THE SENSATIONALISTIC AND MENACING SIDE OF THE GRIMM’S FAIRY TALES AND HOLLYWOOD CRIME SCENE PHOTOGRAPHY CIRCA 1940’S. BOTH SUBJECTS, ONCE DIVORCED OF THEIR FOLKLORIC ENCHANTMENT AND STYLIZED IMAGERY, REVEAL WICKEDNESS, CRUELTY AND ABANDONMENT IN UNCONCEIVABLE MEASURES.
TEATUM JONES’ AW12COLLECTION PAINTS SCENES OF OVERSIZED, TREACHEROUS YET UTTERLY MAGICAL LANDSCAPES, BLENDING EARLY 19TH CENTURY GERMANY AND 20TH CENTURY HOLLYWOOD. THESE SCENES CAST OMINOUS LIGHT OVER WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE REMOVES THE MAGIC FROM FOLKLORE AND IS LEFT WITH THE STARKNESS OF REALITY AND PLAUSIBILITY. DARK OLIVE TWO-TONE GREENS SHIMMER IRIDESCENTLY AGAINST HEAVY CHARCOAL VIRGIN WOOLS PRESENTING LUXURIOUS AND STEADFAST COATING AND CONTEMPORARY COCKTAIL DRESSES. ELECTRIC PINK LUREX TWEEDS, FLUORESCENT LIMES AND MAGICAL MAGENTA PINKS STRIKE A BEACON OF LIGHT AMONGST THE DARKEST DEPTHS OF A FORESTRY PALETTE. ROSE PINK AND KHAKI STONEWASHED SILKS PRESENT A CHALKY WASH AMONGST TONAL PANELLING IN SECRET FOLDS AND HIDDEN POCKETS.
TEATUM JONES’ USE OF NARRATIVE PRINT GROWS EVER MORE POIGNANT IN THE STORY BOARD AND HARLEQUIN PRINTS FOR AW12. AN ACUTE FLASH OF LIGHT AMONGST THE NIGHTLY FOREST GREENS AND CHARCOAL VIRGIN WOOLS REVEAL A GINGERBREAD HOUSE OF FORBIDDEN TRUTHS AND LURING TEMPTATIONS. MAGICAL LANDSCAPES EMBLAZONED ACROSS SUBTLETY SHEER SILK ORGANZAS REVEAL COLOURED SMOKE CLOUDS THAT MISCHIEVOUSLY PLAY WITH YOUR SENSE OF NOW YOU SEE IT, NOW YOU DON’T.
REFINED, ELEGANT AND ULTRA FEMININE MIDI SILHOUETTES THAT HARK TO A BYGONE HOLLYWOOD ERA ARE THROWN OUT OF CONTEXT WITH THE INJECTION OF A CHILDLIKE PERCEPTION OF SCALE AND COLOUR. TAILORING ADAPTS TO HAPHAZARDLY OVERSIZED PATCH POCKETS REMINISCENT OF A CHILD PLAYING DRESS UP WITH THEIR FATHER’S JACKETS AND COATS. THE REPLACEMENT OF BUTTONS SEES THE INTRODUCTION OF OUTLANDISHLY OVERSIZED GOLD POPPERS AND CHUNKY BRASS METAL ZIPS. CONTRAST PANELLING ON TAILORED CUFFS, TROUSERS AND DRESSES REVEALS AN INNOCENTLY CANDID INTERPRETATION OF PROPORTION AND SCALE. SILK GAZARDS AND FEATHERY COTTONS RETAIN A CHILDLIKE BOUNCE AND SOFTNESS AS THE FABRIC ROLLS IN AND OUT OF TUCKED NAPKIN INSPIRED DRAPING ON DRESSES AND SKIRTS. CONTRAST COLOUR TOPSTITCHING REVEALS A SENSE OF NOSTALGIC HANDCRAFT WITH A DARNING-LIKE SENSIBILITY. SHOWING A PRISTINE UNDERSTANDING OF THE ENCHANTRESS AS WELL AS THE REALISTIC, REVEALS A PLAYFUL, COMPASSIONATE AND POWERFULLY ASTUTE WOMAN. THE TEATUM JONES WOMAN IS EFFORTLESSLY CHIC AND UNCOMPROMISINGLY NONCHALANT. SHE IS DRAWN TO THE LABEL AS IT ALLOWS HER TO ACHIEVE THE PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN MASCULINE AND FEMININE, STRUCTURE AND FLUIDITY.”
And here is an exclusive look at their mood board for this season, revealing a perfect insight into the thought processes behind this collection, as well as the level of colour we’ll be seeing from them for AW’12.

We have also been treated to a preview of their soundtrack, which has been created from many of the songs that Teatum Jones have been listening to while creating this collection. It’s disarmingly beautiful, perfectly reflecting Teatum Jones’ stunning, sophisticated handwriting. I cannot wait to see the presentation at Liberty, especially after Rob and Catherine have been so kind as to share this collection with me at several of it’s development. We at “Blink” are huge Teatum Jones fans, and we feel sure that, if you’re not already, you will be soon!
