Blink Events: Field Day

Better late than never, we have our Field Day coverage. This was the fifth anniversary of one of the most successful day festivals, set in East London’s Victoria Park, now attracting around 20,000 attendees.  We sent Amy, one of our interns, along to cover it and here’s her summary of the event and the start of three days worth of brilliant style shots…

REPORT
Field Day was really fun, lots of good summery vibes. The queue was huge and didn’t move quickly but it was worth the wait as once inside the location was spacious and the mood was up-beat. Most music genres were presented in the line up, with a focus on up and coming DJ’s and musicians such as James Blake and Erol Alkan. The sounds were a mixture of drum and bass and electro with the occasional indie band such as Jamie XX (who was unfortunately hard to hear due to be being drowned out by over excited crowds!).  Other festival fun included tradition English style sports day activities such as sack racing and a tug of war.

Festival goers proved London’s individual fashion sense with no one sticking to any specific style rules and keeping things edgy with favourites such as cut off denims and a kaleidoscope of retro inspiration. Here’s a summary of the hottest looks that I noticed:

First up is Practical outerwear. With rain forecasted, practical outerwear- particularly for men, seemed like a suitable yet stylish solution for the unpredictable British weather. Lots of classic anoraks and military style canvas rucksacks with attention to detail, chunky pockets and prominent zips. Usually updated with a pair of tailored chinos and smart shoes.

Next is Mixed Prints. Following the diverse range of prints seen on catwalks this summer, festival girls had taken to contrasting and clashing. I saw stripes teamed with washed out florals, graphic tees with camouflage , tapestry with leopard print, 80’s rave with ditsy polka dots.  Both girls and boys were making brave statements with not just colour but texture and pattern too. The more mish mash, the better!

Dip Dye looked really interesting. This was definite trend not only with clothing but hair too.  Girls were accessorizing with hair which had dip dyed ends and I also spied a fair few bold rainbow dip dyed pieces, both of which put a playful spin on 90’s grunge. This is the focus of our first set of shots…
