Fashion Forecasting from Blink London: Cooperation

Thursday, January 7th, 2016

We hope you have enjoyed our previous forecasting posts looking at resilience and altruism. Today we turn our attention to cooperation.

Cooperation, fashion forecasting, 2016 fashion trends, Blink London, fashion blog

the action or process of working together to the same end. A situation in which people work together to do something. : the actions of someone who is being helpful by doing what is wanted or asked for. Voluntarily arrangement in which two or more entities engage in a mutually beneficial exchange instead of competing.

For the past few season’s the watchword has been collaboration. This has been a really important movement, but we think it has evolved in to cooperation. While collaborators of course work together, the switch from that to cooperation represents a more mutual, supportive endeavour where both parties have an equal benefit.

Within the fashion world this has given us some great innovations in retailing, enhancing the physical retail environment with space given over to pop up events from businesses that share your mission, identity, aesthetic and customer type while delivering something other to what you yourself sell. It is a collation of related beliefs while the products themselves stay separate. It enhances both parties brand identity, exposes them to new customers and shares hard won kudos.

These partnerships should be entered into with great care however. Your choice of partnership reflects who you are as a brand in a very powerful way. Oasis creating space for Rockett St George in the Argyll Street store over the Christmas trading period is a great example of clever cooperation. Rockett St George enjoyed their first physical retail venture, and in the heart of London too. Oasis gained extra ‘respec’t points, lifting them up just a touch from their very close competitors. It was a win/win.

In the year ahead we look forward to seeing more of these innovative, and also altruistic cooperative relationships showing up across the fashion map. There will be more from our fashion forecasting series tomorrow. In the meantime, for more forecasting posts, take a look here.

Petite Meller is a special Blink #MusicMonday

Today we feature not one but two videos in a #MusicMonday feature that is a bit of a departure from the Blink London norm. This time I must admit that the music is secondary to the artist as far as our decision to feature Petite Meller, a wee French style sensation.

I’m in love with Petite Meller’s style; and what a cute, nutty and fabulous style it is! Her videos look like a Tim Walker shoot come to life. From her makeup and styling to the crazy, weird dance routines. Her gangly silhouette teamed with those ‘naive meets pop art’ outfits adds a strange kind of childishness to her look- but then her stance, attitudes and expressions feel rather ‘knowing’. And oh those pink cheeks!

She is a shot of sunshine to both your eyes and your ears. To make sure that you can see just why we are so engaged by her, here are Petite’s two latest releases, Baby Love and Barbaric.

Are you in love too now after watching those two videos? For more of our musical posts, just take a look here.

“Blink” SS’12: Rochas rocks our world

Monday, January 9th, 2012

I have to say that Rochas isn’t one of the first names that springs to mind when I’m thinking of my favourite labels, or even when I think of the more influential names in the fashion industry. When I spotted this SS’12 show in a couple of the magazine show round ups, I was intrigued and wanted to see more. It was like a wonderfully welcome breath of fresh air during one of my many days spent trawling the show coverage, trying to divine what I’m feeling will evolve into SS’13’s key trends.

Rochas’ artistic director, Marco Zanini described this collection “Like a journey through the vortex of cinema.” Well, if you fall into this particular vortex, you’ll emerge like a Hitchcock heroine who has collided with a large dose of B movie quirkiness. ‘New Look’ silhouettes, refined and classic textile choices, a pastel infused palette and a bonkers floral print were all perfectly accessorised with beehive hairdos and cool, cats eye shades. Well, Mr Zanini, you have a new fan. If I could, I would be a Rochas girl for every day of Spring Summer 2012…

All of the images are from the amazing Click here to see their full coverage of this gorgeous show.

“Blink” Retail: Sunshine from Sonia Rykiel

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Yesterday was our first working day of the year and we braved the torrential rains and the gusting wind in order to start our retail research for the next set of reports. It was not the kind of weather that encourages you to think ‘Spring’ thoughts, so I was delighted when I came across the ray of sunshine that was the Sonia Rykiel store window display. Three looks in gorgeous daffodil yellow to inject some much needed Vitamin D into our system. An instant shot of Spring hope for you.
