Blink Events: Roskilde Festival, Denmark part 2

So, from setting the mood with yesterday’s post to day we get to share some Roskilde style shots with you. It seems that festival style is pretty much a global look (tweaked a little to reflect the weather!).We are starting with some great denim oriented looks- and a focus on shorts. It may not be super new news, but it is still very cool.

Blink Events: Roskilde Festival, Denmark part 1

Our wonderful intern, Rebecca, was at Roskilde festival, held in a field about 40 minutes drive outside of Copenhagen. Here’s her account of the event, and we have some great style shots to follow tomorrow…

The festival is pretty commercially focused, and this year’s line up featured some really big names with Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A, The Strokes and Portishead all making appearances, but its primary focus is still on showcasing new, smaller names. Portishead played an amazing set on ‘the Orange stage’. This stage is the biggest at the festival with a capacity of 60,000 people. This stage has been designed to represent the logo of Roskilde festival, and was actually originally the Rolling Stones’ tour tent- a nice bit of recycling by the Roskilde team! Another great concert was the Charles Bradley gig, which was on one of the smaller stages. The band created a really relaxed and harmonious atmosphere which was really cool after some of the more hectic shows. Overall, the crowd was very mixed, with a slight majority of indie/rock fans, a fair amount of hip hop fans as well as a rapidly growing segment of electro/house fans.

The atmosphere at Roskilde was, as always, very relaxed, friendly and fun. It is, in many ways, a continuation of the hippie traditions and mindsets that founded the festival 41 years ago, and all profits go to charitable causes with a promise from the organizers that it will all be allocated before next year’s festival. The tree like, wooden constructions on some of the pictures were made by architecture students. They were really beautiful and great to hang around and sit on. The festival organizers work really hard to create an atmosphere that feels really calm and safe, with a big emphasis on encouraging the festival-goers to avoid drugs, go easy on drink and instead focus on the brilliant music.

Blink Events: Distortion, Copenhagen

So, here’s the second post from Distortion, featuring some of the best colourful and patterned looks that we spotted. There’s an inspiringly broad stretch of styles, as you’d see at any festival, but obviously with a Danish twist from this Copenhagen based event. Jumpsuits and playsuits look great, but our favourite shot of all is the stunning lady in red…

Blink Events: Distortion, Copenhagen (guest post by Rebecca Krasnik)

I’m Rebecca and I’m an intern here at “Blink London”, helping out with collecting, selecting and retouching all the creative and inspiring stuff for the monthly reports. I am a photography student at University of Westminster on my first year of the Bachelor degree. I just moved to London in September 2010 from Copenhagen and I find it very exiting to live, study and work in London. It is such a vibrant and inspiring city.

Now I am back in Copenhagen for a long weekend to join all of the party-happy people at the amazing city centre festival, Distortion.

The festival is all about experiencing Copenhagen in a new way, having fun and dancing to good club music. This is exactly what people have been doing from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday (June 1st-5th), with big block parties in the streets all around Copenhagen, focusing on a new neighborhood each day. Every evening Club Clash gathers everyone up for special club nights in spectacular locations in Copenhagen, with loads more music, dancing and general partying until the early morning.

Artists from both the Danish and the international club scene played at this year’s Distortion. Some of my favourite artists playing were Theo Parrish, Crookers, Mathew Jonson, Acid Washed and Uproot Andy.

Distortion has been celebrating Copenhagen street life and club culture since 1998 and has been growing and growing in popularity year on year. This year the amount of guests has surprised everyone with more than 100,000 people in the streets every day. The atmosphere has been full of joy, really relaxed and pretty calm. The weekend of the festival, surprisingly enough, had a lower crime rate than in a normal weekend in Copenhagen (six people got arrested throughout Distortion!).

In celebration that the sun is shining again after a long and dark winter, everybody is working their new Summer outfits. It’s pretty clear that this is to be a Summer of bright colour. I spotted lots of bold colour combinations but also some really striking solid colour looks too. We cannot deny that it is a Nordic country and it gets chilly in the evening, even in the height of Summer, so the Danes know how to keep themselves stylishly warm too, so there’s some great knitwear and layered looks too.

Here are some shots to help you feel the atmosphere of the event, and over the next couple of days there’ll be some style shots for you to enjoy too. Can’t wait to be able to share more festival coverage with you soon…
