On the 31st July, our brilliant “Blink” reporter, Cat, headed to Victoria Park for Field Day.
Inspired by country pastimes and simpler pleasures, plus a splash of domestic drudgery and adolescent sports days, this fest keeps the delightful spirit of the village fair alive in a very cool corner of Hackney. The Village Green Area included egg and spoon races, human wheelbarrow races, ‘Tug of War’, sack races, a blindfolded tea drinking relay race, scone throwing contest and much more…
But don’t think this was all pastoral pastimes and innocent fun. This is an East London festival after all. Music was a mix of indie rock and dance, the line up including Caribou, These New Puritans, Memory Tapes, Gold Panda, a Simian Mobile Disco DJ set, Fake Blood, Hudson Mohawke and the Archie Bronson Outfit were the highlights in our opinion.
The East London vibe was in full force for the style stakes too. Fashionable Field Day attendees mixed 80’s style; bumbags and bold prints whilst evocative black lace stockings were teamed with thigh grazing dresses and super short denim shorts.
Here’s our first style post for you. We think this group of girls are rocking some super fierce looks and were the best way to start things rolling. We have a couple more posts to come too, so keep ’em peeled…
Thanks Cat for great shots and a brilliant review!
