“Blink” Music: London Grammar, Wilderness’14

Today’s #MusicMonday is dedicated to last night’s stellar Wilderness festival headline performance from London Grammar. We all hung on in there through the rain and thunder storms to witness them close the festival in style. Well, the wait wasn’t so bad as it featured Chet Faker, Sam Smith and Jessie Ware so please don’t feel at all sorry for us!

Haunting, spine tingling and utterly beautiful, enhanced by the light of the full moon shining down from behind those rain clouds, London Grammar were a quite wonderful end to this epic festival weekend. Thank you Wilderness.

“Blink” Music: Jessie Ware ‘Tough Love’

I’m not sure if my choice for today’s Music Monday track has been influenced by my newly single status (must I really face Tinder AGAIN!?!) but aside from helping me through by being an ace song to yell along too at high volume (sorry neighbours), it’s also just a thoroughly gorgeous, multi-layered, deeply infectious and pretty much perfect track.

We’re long term Jessie Ware fans here at Blink Towers, yet with every new release we are freshly reminded of the beauty of her voice. ‘Tough Love’ is liltingly romantic yet still strong with a bold beat blended with a tad of 90’s syth pop. I am super excited that she’s playing at Wilderness as I haven’t yet seen her live. Hopefully I’ll be over my heartbreak by then and won’t be tempted to dash on stage and wail when she sings this particular song. Just jokes, probably…

This track is released on August 3rd. For more of our musical posts, just have a look here.

“Blink” Music: Sampha ‘Indecision’

Meet Sampha, and fall in love with him and his unique sound just as we have done. Not only is the lilting, deep, subtle structure of this track a pure audio delight, he is clearly a deeply skilled producer, writer, musician and singer. This 24 year old has far outgrown his beginnings in Morden, playing the family piano, and has worked with such mega talents as Jessie Ware, SBTRKT and Drake before brilliantly now breaking out on his own.

From what I’ve dug up about ‘Indecision’, the track seems to have been originally released back in 2011, but has just been re-released as part of his second EP, called ‘Duel’. I really hope that there is album to follow on soon too.

Unusually, I’ve posted two videos here. The first includes Sampha talking about his journey in to music, followed by a stunning stripped back version of ‘Indecision’- just the man and his piano. The second video features the fully produced and remixed version which I understand is the one that features on the EP. I hope that you enjoy both.

“Blink” Music: Jessie Ware ‘110%’

So, thanks to a fabulously extended weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, we missed dropping a #MusicMonday tune for you this week, so instead we have decided to name this our #MidweekMusic post instead. It might catch on…

What is sure to catch on is the artist we are featuring today. This track from the brilliant Jessie Ware, has an amazing sticky quality and we are sure it’ll be rolling around your head for days after a few plays. It’s been hard to find out any info about Jessie to add to this post, aside from the fact that she’s new, young, British artist and has featured as the vocalist on some tracks from SBTRKT.
