As part of our Press Day rounds, we came across this stunning jewellery collection from London based, Italian designer, Maria Piana, at the Bloody Gray event.
This collection of linear, minimal and innovative silver pieces just shone out and grabbed our attention. The combination of industrial and artisan techniques used in this jewellery makes it all incredibly tempting. You just want to slip them on to see how they feel on your body. The items that amazed me the most were the stunningly graphic yet completely ergonomic cuff style bands that slip across the middle of your palm. I’ve never seen anything quite like this, although Piana admitted that she is not the first to create jewellery to be worn in this way. She is the first, however, to work with these particular forms and designs, perhaps inspired by her previous career as a dentist? There is something quite medical about many of the shapes, in a really, really appealing way.

Last week was a rather exciting, if hectic one. Aside fom giving my inaugural lecture at the brand new Conde Nast College, it was also the week for AW’13 Press Days. I was lucky enough to be invited along to a few events and we’d like to share the highlights with you.
We’re starting off with H&M who showed their AW’13 catwalk collection. Presented in the stunning Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, bathed in beautiful Spring sunshine, the AW’13 season’s women’s and menswear is a wonderful collection of beautifully considered, well designed and stunningly detailed looks. H&M had previously shown these pieces in February’s Paris Fashion Week to great acclaim.
I fell for most of the styles at the Press Day (In particular I love the thigh high boots. There’s a longline sheepskin gilet at only £99! The embellished, sheer, peachy vintage feel dress is a stunner) so have already started stashing some cash ready to make quite a few purchases when this exclusive collection is launched at only 200 stores worldwide on 5th September. Get that date in your diaries now!

You may have read our previous post on Maria Francesca Pepe from September’s London Fashion Week. Well, we were really looking forward to seeing where the brand had taken it’s hard/soft, sexy/tough signature for AW’13. I’m in love with the new take on the multi ring trend, as well as her innovation with the stud/ spike detail.

She’s also added the MFP Man collection too, with some great looks for the boys, and perfectly timed based on the amount of jewellery wearing blokes we saw at LFW this time around.

We were delighted to be invited along to iHeart Studios in Bermondsey by Tatty Devine to join in their celebration of the Indian festival, Holi. We cut out quick sharp when the paint started flying in traditional Holi style, but prior to that we thoroughly enjoyed the Midori cocktails (too many of those and you may well glow in the dark!), glitter tattoos by Riffat Bahar and nail art by Nancy MC’s team.
We met Tatty Devine’s co-founders, Rosie Wolfden and Harriet Vine who said “This is the first time we’ve thrown a party on this scale and we were thrilled so many people turned out to celebrate the Holi festival and our new collection. The collection was inspired by vibrant spring festivals, so a powder paint extravaganza was the perfect way to celebrate and have some fun with colour!”
They were joined by a quite few equally colourful guests, including the Stooshe girls as well as the gorgeous DJ Sarah Jane Crawford.

The Mawi stand at London Fashion Week always brings out my inner magpie. It’s impossible not to stop and stare at all the wonderful sparkly things. For AW’13 they have excelled themselves. The jewellery collection was split over three stories, two of which featured surprisingly gorgeous bike chains (minus the grease and plus brilliantly shiny metallic finishes). Mawi’s signature elements of spikes and sparkling, coloured crystals were worked into really enticing industrial/ vintage inspired/ sexy styles.
Our favourite story was entitles ‘Deco Glam’ featuring more geometric shapes and sophisticate pavé style gems worked into sophisticated yet bold geometric shapes.

H&M very smartly threw a bit of an ‘immediate response’ shoes and accessories Press Day, featuring lots of their fabulous Spring Summer ‘must haves’ alongside a little re-show at the key looks from the men’s and womenswear Summer collections.
Generally Press Days happen so far ahead of the actual season that it can be quite confusing and disorienting. This has traditionally been driven by the long lead times needed by all the glorious monthly glossy fashion mags. Well, H&M have realized that we bloggers can share news pretty much instantaneously, so this shoe and accessories Press Day featured product that is either in store now, or arriving imminently. Genius!
Here are some of the favourites from what we saw last night, and I must tell you that the black backpack (with ears!!!!) is on my ‘most wanted’ list, and it will be instore in about three weeks.

It’s that time of year again… almost! Now, what did that special person in your life hint that they wanted to find under the tree? No idea? Too much mulled wine in your system to remember clearly? Or perhaps you’ve been too distracted by self gifting when you should have been picking up pressies for your friends and family?
Well, what I’ve been subliminally seeding for that past month or so is the fact that pretty much all that I’d like for Christmas can be found at Avenue 32. This is one of my new favourite super stylish shopping sites. These guys carry some really innovative and interesting names that you might not see on other luxe shopping sites. Each designer gets to create their own boutique style space so you can get a really good feel for what they are all about.
Here’s a little peek at a couple of the brands I have got my eye on, by way of a wee wish list. I’m really into the gorgeous accessories from Bex Rox at Avenue 32. Have a look at the whole collection here. Aside from accessories, my other favourite treat is always posh undies, and Myla never disappoints. You can see the whole collection here. Both brilliant British brands, which is an additional bonus.

We absolutely loved the way the SS’13 MFP collection was presented at Somerset House’s LFW exhibition. Feeling very refined and considered, this collection also has a bold industrial feeling about it. A great combination of something really tough and something very sexy. Who wouldn’t want to channel some of that into their wardrobe?
This collection is made Italian artisans and small specialist factories, but the inspiration is found in London. Italian designer, Maria Francesca Pepe created MFP in 2008, after graduating with an MA from Central Saint Martins, and has kept London as her home and creative base since then.
We really like the fringe style strands in contrast to some of the more linear and fixed elements of these pieces. The geometric section are balanced gorgeously with the more organic or curvacious. There is a feeling of something sexily restrictive and hard as well as soft and feminine.
