If you’re an avid reader of our blog, then you may well recall this post about Thor and Wistle, and the launch of their East London boutique. Well, we have become great fans of their work since then, and were delighted to discover that Rachel Entwistle was showing at the London Fashion Week exhibition, in Somerset House.
As usual, Entwistle’s jewellery is filled with deep symbolism. The themes that she explores may start out as something rather intense and even a little haunting, but if the back-story isn’t quite up your alley then the end results are something that you can treasure purely for their delicate beauty, adding your own memories, meanings and significance.
The newest pieces celebrate the phases of the moon and incorporate a refined, graphic takes on sacred symbols. I love the combination of pendants shown together on this stand. There were some particularly gorgeous midi rings (this season’s update on last season’s multi-finger ring), featuring snakes biting on their own tails, signifying the cycle of life.
We also loved learning more about the inspiration behind the bone inspired shapes in the ‘Memento Mori’ collection, and understanding the significance of the complex cross shapes in the ‘Scarabaeidae’ collection, which are both already available on Entwistle’s website.
