“Blink” Events: Bestival’15 and the Summer of Love

Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

Now that we have got Wilderness, Camp Bestival and Notting Hill Carnival out of the way we can focus all of our attention on our final festival of 2015. Our grand finale festival event is always the brilliant Bestival. If you don’t have tickets I think there are a few still available if you get your skates on, and once you have those tickets the next thing on your Bestival ‘things to do’ list must surely be the preparation of your outfit.

This year’s theme is ‘Summer of Love’ and so we’ve decided to help you out with some inspiration. In our opinion, to nail this look you need the three F’s. That’s flowers, fringing and a flippin’ big smile. We’ve headed right back to ’69 which was the original Summer of Love and the year of Woodstock. We hope this helps focus your mind and looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!

“Blink” Accessories: Flower Power at Wilderness

Friday, August 14th, 2015

In yesterday’s post we gave you the heads up on what to expect as far as our Wilderness festival style coverage was concerned. After all of that wonderfully spangly makeup, the next key element to share is the amazing variety of flower crowns. I guess these pretty fellas have been a feature of the core festi look only for the past couple of years, but in that short time the flower crown has been established as a pretty much a ‘must have’ part of the festival look. Well, you pop one of these beauties on and it’s an instant game changer from your everyday self in to festi-fabulous mode. I’d quite like to see a few more of these just randomly on folks around town. Now that would cheer everyone’s day up no end!

So to define the variations on this theme spotted at Wilderness, we’d say you had your:

  • folksy, free-range feeling naturals
  • full-on mega bouquet naturals
  • printed paper floral crowns (DIY at a lovely stall)
  • artificial, bold and bright floral crowns, clips and headbands.

Those huge and stunning floral arrangements below were being worn by the Pukka tea folks who were very gorgeously handing out cuppas to those in need.

Which floral look is your favourite? Oh and special kudos to those fellas rocking flowers too.

“Blink” Beauty: Wilderness’15 Sparkles!

Thursday, August 13th, 2015

Here’s the first drop of our coverage from the wonder that is Wilderness festival. What a fabulous sunshiney time we had. Thanks to all of you who stopped your revelry for a moment so that Chloe could take your picture. You all look AMAZING!

Each year we’ve been to Wilderness we notice a slight change in the main looks being rocked, as well as the makeup and accessory choices adorning those looks. We know it’s pretty much going to be a variation on a shiny, happy, flower-crowned, sparkle-fest which is always good with us. The slight change this time as far as festival faces were concerned was that those sparkles were bigger, bolder and a bit nuttier than ever. It’s an opportunity to absolutely turn your back on what’s news in carefully crafted, but ever so boring contouring and strobing, and instead go full on for fabulous colour, stencils, twinkles and stick ons!

“Blink” Music: Bestival’s Headliners- Duran Duran!

Monday, August 3rd, 2015

A slightly different approach to our #MusicMonday post today and this time it’s even more self-indulgent than usual! Hope you don’t mind too much.

Now that the wonderful Camp Bestival is done (I’m sure you lucky folks who went had an amazing time), our eyes look ahead to the original and still that absolute best by name and nature, Bestival! Here’s Bestival’s own Rob da Bank chatting with Duran Duran‘s John Taylor. Yup, Duran Duran are the Friday night headline act at Bestival! Ooh, I’ve come over all hot…

Yes I am showing my age, but Duran Duran were the band that my teenage self lived for. They were plastered all over my teenage bedroom walls, doodled all over my schoolbooks, and it was John Taylor’s name that was surrounded by hearts in particular. This guy inspired my semi mullet resplendent with a Sun-In lightened ginger fringe, my teen wardrobe of frilly white shirts, the early adoption of heavy handed, kohl lined eyes and my (still remaining) penchant for a felt trilby. He was probably my first taste of heartbreak too (darn you Amanda de Cadenet).

Enough of my trip down memory lane. The fact of the matter is that these guys haven’t played the festival circuit for a long time so that fact alone makes this great news. In addition Duran Duran have been working on new album. It’s called ‘Paper Gods‘ and will be out in August. Here’s a track from it. ‘Pressure Off’ features Janelle Monae and Nile Rodgers. Based on this track, and probably also some of my teenage love for these guys, I think this is going to be a great album.

“Blink” Events: Liberty’s blooming beautiful tent!

The 'Flowers of Liberty' tent collection, camping, glamping, Liberty London

The ‘Flowers of Liberty’ tent collection

Just as we are making our plans for Wilderness festival, news of these beauties drops into our inbox. What perfect timing! We are unashamedly Liberty London superfans, so these stunning floral print tents are right up our strasse.

I’m not a willing camper (although I think this tent is going to change that!), however every festival season I grit my teeth and bare a few nights under canvas in return for some of the most exciting, hilarious, awe-inspiring experiences of the year. A fair trade off I think- especially when it comes to the wonder that is Wilderness festival, our out and out favourite of the past few years.

Liberty Flowers Tents in three floral designs

Liberty Flowers Tents in three floral designs

Team Wilderness joy with the Betsy, Theodora or Wiltshire patterned Liberty floral tents and we think you have a match made in heaven. Made from responsibly sourced materials that are 100% waterproof (we needed that at last year’s Wilderness!), the Liberty tent sleeps 2 with plenty of wriggle room, or 3 if you are really, really close friends! It has a little lobby space that’s perfect for you to stash your coolbox/ wellies/ huge feathered headdress, and the breathable inner tent to allow you to snooze in comfort. Now where did I put my sleeping bag?

“Blink” Music: Lianne La Havas at Glastonbury 2015, ‘Unstoppable’

Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

For those of us who didn’t actually make it to Worthy Farm this year, there’s loads of coverage available to be enjoyed online in the comfort of your own home, smelling fresh, no mud in sight…

This is one of our highlights from that coverage. This is the marvellous Lianne La Havas performing ‘Unstoppable’ in the BBC’s Glastonbury Music Teepee. The poise, the elegance, the soul, the heartbreaking, effortless beauty of her voice. Okay, I admit to having a bit of a girl crush going on…

This track is from Lianne’s new album ‘Blood’ which drops at the end of July. You can pre-order it right now. I am so excited to hear more of her new work. She left us hanging for too long after her stellar debut ‘Lost and Found’ which came out in 2011- and which I might add still sounds as fresh now as it did then.
