“Blink” Music: Smiler ‘Top of the World’

We picked this up from a few well placed tweets by Professor Green, who features on this track, ‘Top of the World’, along with the compelling vocals of Tawiah (who probably deserves a Music Monday spot of her own).

So, what we know about Smiler is that this South London rapper is passionate about making authentic and intelligently lyrical hip hop. On his Facebook page he’s quoted as saying “I’m trying to bring people back to the lyrics, the beats and real talent… Now is Hip Hop’s time and I’m bringing the sound back to the fans”. Good work, we think!

Friday Festival Fun: OTT at LED

Whilst Reading and Leeds was a strong festival option for the weekend of 27th August, those who seriously wanted to party headed to Victoria Park for London’s Electronic and Dance Festival.

LED had a deadly line up with a perfect balance of up and coming as well as established acts. So not only was there the buzz of excitement in the air, there was also a lot of bass. Boy 8-bit, Audio Bullys, Tiga, Calvin Harris, Soulwax and David Guetta got LED of to a banging start on Friday. Professor Green performed to his Hackney home crowd on the Saturday. Annie Mac got the crowd going early in the evening, followed by the incomparable Aphex Twin and indie-electro act, Friendly Fires. The beautiful Alison Goldfrapp performed a greatest hits set adding a blond streak of super glamour to the event.

We’ll have more style shots from the event next week, but in place of our usual ‘Friday Fun’ spot, we wanted to feature this young lady’s style. These are probably my favourite shots of the festival season. Well spotted Cat! Great outfit, and bursting with joy. Amazing oversized accessories and eye popping print. Whats not to love?
