“Blink” Retail: Hermes’ little helpers

We spotted this window just before the Christmas break. I really appreciate Hermes commitment to their history, tradition and handwriting. We learned lots about all of their incredible handcrafted techniques at the Festival des Metiers at the Saatchi Gallery last year. We really like this window scheme where the craftsmen and women have been replaced by these shiny insects. I guess that’s Hermes super stylish version of an Umpa-Lumpa (no offense to Umpa-Lumpas intended).

“Blink” Retail: Festive Feasting by Dolce and Gabbana

I do love a good Christmas window and there are some great ones out there this time around (did you see my tweet of the Stella McCartney window yesterday?). This one from Dolce and Gabbana, in their Sloane Street store, has to be one of my most favourite. Who wouldn’t want to be sat at a table this glamorous, filled with so many sweet treats, decorated with some rather wonderful sparklers (and by sparklers we are referring to that rather gorgeous jewellery).

“Blink” Pattern: Moncler M

A little while back I tweeted an editorial shot from Elle magazine, featuring a stunning look from Moncler M. This is a collaborative collection featuring the amazing work of Mary Katrantzou, blended with the handwriting of style and function driven brand, Moncler. The resulting hybrid styles feature the best of both; smothered in amazing signature Mary K prints and styled in a way that embraces her aesthetic but also incorporated Moncler’s performance materials and construction. We spotted this in the Sloane Street Moncler store window, and wanted to share the genius with you. I wonder if I can get away with this look just stepping out in town?

Here are some more images from the collection, swiped with thanks from Dover Street Market Ginza’s website. The collection doesn’t seem to be available in the Dover Street London store, but is in the Sloane Street Moncler store and can be found online at Matches too.

“Blink” Retail: Joseph x Peter Pilotto

So it seems I have one more thing in common with Joseph than I realized. Not only are we both innately chic, super stylish and cutting edge (ahem, well if I believe it hard enough it might come true…), we both also have a huge pash on Peter Pilotto. I haven’t covered the front of “Blink” Towers in a blown up version of the current season PP print like Joseph has, but I’m just more subtle with my crushes I guess.

“Blink” Retail: Fabulous Fendi

We spend a lot of time hanging around the shops in the name of work. It’s a hard life but someone’s got to do it! One of my favourite moments when out retailing is spotting new window schemes. I have to say that the majority of fashion retailers do a very, very good job.  Not all, but most deliver something quite entrancing and inspirational and those are the ones we like to share with you.

The favourite from the last outing is this from Fendi. Looking like cubes made from melted down Fendi hardware, these look really wonderfully precious, like designer gold bullion! Fendi is a brand that we think doesn’t quite score the style headlines that it deserves, perhaps overshadowed by other labels with a similar graphic look, like Celine. Well, it pays to recall that this is yet another collection created under the auspices of the very hard working Karl Lagerfeld, and deserves appreciation as an Italian label that has a really strong handwriting that is very, very different to what we’ve come to expect from high end Italian brands in general. It’s not just about great handbags, although we wouldn’t say no to a couple of those should anyone be asking…

“Blink” Retail: It’s Christmas!

Wondering down Sloane Street last week, there was no doubt that it is well and truly now Christmas. We are, at least, actually in December now so that does feel something we do have to get our heads around. Helping us to get into the festive mood was this wonderful shopfront display from Jimmy Choo. Jimmy’s got balls, and lots of very shiny silver ones at that…

“Blink” Retail: It’s Christmas!

Another look at Sloane Street’s rather glamorous take on Christmas. This time it’s a little insight into what Dolce and Gabbana‘s Christmas spread will look like. Well, this is like a standard Friday night supper round mine, to be honest…

Love, pass me another pomegranate and a bun would you?

“Blink” Retails: Fashion Confusion at Gucci

If you’re anything like me right now, you are wearing so many layers that it’s a struggle to move about. It is rather chilly in London, and when it’s not frosty bright, it’s grey and chucking it down, cats and dogs style. The most sensible course of action is to stay indoors with the heating turned up and a hot toddy on the go (purely for medicinal purposes, obviously). Well, you’d think in reflection of the time of year, store windows would be filled with wooly jumpers, warm coats, hats and scarves. Oh, we’ll allow them the odd sequin too as it is now officially the Christmas party season.

It seems that’s not the case for Gucci. We spotted this look last week on Sloane Street. Yes folks, those are posh flip flop style sandals under that strappy maxi dress. It makes my extremities go goose bumpy and gets my head very confused to see this in November. Please fashion, can we just slow down a tad?

“Blink” Retail: Pucci’s Fancy Pants

If you want to nail several trends all with one pair of strides, then look no further than these rather fancy pants from Pucci, spotted in their Sloane Street store window. Pajama inspired? Tick. Romantically sheer? Tick. Softly ethnic/ global feeling? Tick. The list goes on.

I can’t say that being that trend versatile is necessarily a good thing as far as these particular trousers are concerned. I personally think they put the ‘loon’ right back into ‘loon pants’…
