If you buy one thing to update your autumn wardrobe, make it a cape. I’m planning one in to my LFW look. There’s so many great ones to choose from, and something for every budget too, from mega statement capes and those that are just a nod to capeness.
Here’s some of our favourites spotted out and about in London over the past couple of weeks…
It seems I may be a season or so in discovering this new London based womenswear label. But better late than never I suppose! After coming across Trager Delaney at London Fashion Week it seemed as if I suddenly kept spotting this label everywhere (a huge window display at Joseph, an article in Vogue, product in Matches). This pair have made quite an impact on the British fashion scene.
Dane, Kim Trager and Brit, Lowell Delaney met while studying fashion at St Martins. After interning at prestigious labels like Celine, Sonia Rykiel and Haider Ackermann they have brought together their respective experience and channeled it into this rather brilliant own label. Aside from the AW’13 collection just looking incredibly fresh, innovative and sophisticated, the pair have utilized some really exciting technical fabrics yet this doesn’t feel like a ‘function’ driven offer at all. If anything it’s ultra elegant in a really modern way. I do wish, however, that there wasn’t fur in the collection, but perhaps this is related to Trager’s Danish heritage. I wonder what the Brit retailers will make of that part of the collection?

We spent a brief moment talking with Kim Trager at London Fashion Week, while Lowell Delaney was busy showing buyers the collection. It seems the duo have a very clear plan for their brand which involves a slow and steady growth and a very conscious focus on selling through the very best boutiques (Joseph and Matches are not a bad start don’t you agree?).
I really look forward to seeing where this duo go next with their collection. If all of the attention they are currently enjoying is anything to go by, they have a very exciting future ahead of them.
Spotted in the Sonia Rykiel window, I have decided this is the perfect going away outfit, so basically someone needs to propose to me immediately so that I have the excuse I need to buy this stunning lacy confection. It’s even more delicious when you consider that this particular window is usually filled with brightly coloured knitwear, as you’d expect from this brand.
Yesterday was our first working day of the year and we braved the torrential rains and the gusting wind in order to start our retail research for the next set of reports. It was not the kind of weather that encourages you to think ‘Spring’ thoughts, so I was delighted when I came across the ray of sunshine that was the Sonia Rykiel store window display. Three looks in gorgeous daffodil yellow to inject some much needed Vitamin D into our system. An instant shot of Spring hope for you.

Following on from yesterday’s homage to the classic ‘Little Black Dress’, today we swap the meaning of the ‘B’ and this time it stands for ‘Bright’! So, if a black dress is just a bit whatever for you, how about something with a bit more colour impact? Here are some of our favourite bold, bright looks spotted around London’s best retail addresses in the past week or so. Want to dress like a vast floral arrangement? No problem! An ice princess more your thing? We’ve got it covered. An 80’s body con attired popstrel? Look no further!

We’ve been collecting shots of great coats for the past month, but were distracted from sharing them with you due to all of the amazing LFW coverage we had to post. The high end stores of Mount Street, Bond Street, South Molton Street and Sloane Street have been spotlighting the most amazing outerwear, encouraging us to let go of all Indian Summer hopes and embrace the fact that Winter is coming, whether we like it or not.
This post focuses on all of the wonderfully shaggy shearling, textural and paneled looks we’ve been spotting. So whether you’re after a simple sheepskin number, or feeling for a variation on the traditional wool coat (well, actually its all wool of various sorts I suppose…), there are some really inspiring styles out there. Here are some of our favourite spots for you, and we may well have some other outerwear options to follow later in the week.

Add a little sparkle into your life with these babies. Yes, its more from our Autumn ‘Accessories’ report today, and we have decided to feature metallic and metal trimmed looks. This is a really strong direction, and one that has been developing for some time. Starting with all of those studded bags and now diversified right through the whole accessories offer. Its ‘bling’, but in a very cool and sophisticated new way. From some very subtle, low sheen looks to full on, bold statement pieces. Whether its a small touch of sparkle, or a totally smothered twinkle-fest, there’s some fabulous options to appeal to the magpie in you.
More accessories tomorrow? Well, we do have about 400 shots in the Autumn report to choose from, so why not! If you’d like to see more from our brilliantly inspirational and informative reports, then why not have a click here. Enjoy!
The passion for colour continues strongly into Autumn, and we’ve been spotting some great brilliantly colour blocked accessories. Its a great way to refer to a trend without going head to toe. Instead you can choose head or toe! Bold striping and contrast colour panels create a strongly graphic statement that we find hard to resist. This selection of images come from the ‘Accessories’ report that we are putting together to be issued this month. We’ll be sharing some more highlights tomorrow. I’m a well known fringe fan (saves on the need for botox), and we’re delighted to report that the fringe has gone beyond a mere hair-do option and become a fashion moment in its own right. We’ve been spotting fringed accessories for some time, but recently with increasing frequency, and the fringe has moved beyond the hippy handbag and looks great on knits, jersey and soft wovens too. We love the movement and texture that a wonderful fringe or tassel adds to any outfit. Go minimal with a tasseled necklace or fully embrace the fringe with a fabulous statement jacket.

We had a little extra sunshine added to our lives this month as we were out retailing for the new round of reports. The ‘Colour’ message is being delivered loud and clear from all levels of the market and it really brightened up our day! We just had to share some of the best bits of this fashion rainbow with you, and add a little extra zing into this grey day for you too.
Enjoy, and just click here for more retail insights!
