“Blink” Retail: Summer Coats

These feel very appropriate for the impending Jubilee, as there is a distinctively regal feel about these wonderful Summer coats. With quite a 60’s attitude about the silhouettes, fabrications and detailing this heralds an influence that we think will have a far reaching impact into season’s ahead.

If those all seem a little prohibitively priced, how about this beauty from the brilliant Zara?

“Blink” Retail: Bonjour Iro!

Over the past few season’s I’ve become pretty preoccupied with the new wave of French fashion brands. Its been wonderful to watch an emergence of a whole new level of labels dedicated to a youthful and sexy section of the womenswear market, coming from a fashion destination that is traditionally very staid, high end and rarefied.

My French fancy was first piqued by Vanessa Bruno and Isabel Marant. Since then a whole host of fashion labels have emerged from Paris to make a striking impact on the fashion world. One of these new(ish) labels that just seems to me to be getting hotter and hotter, is Iro.

This Paris based brand was launched by brothers Laurent and Arik Bitton in 2004, who brought a feel from their music industry background to label. There is a certain ‘rock and roll’ essence to the men’s and women’s collections, via a hefty dose of French fashion sense. It’s cool and a little ‘street’, but in a very chic way.  If you’re in Paris do visit the flagship store on Rue St Sulpice, but you certainly don’t have to travel that far to shop this collection as it’s on ASOS, in Selfridges, Matches, Fenwick and Urban Outfitters.

“Blink” Print: Reflective

Certainly inspired by the brilliant Stella McCartney, but now exploding across the fashion scene, we have been fascinated by all of these brilliantly reflected looking print designs out there. Looking like a mirror has been placed down the centre line of your body, these carefully placed designs create a really graphic impact.

“Blink” Retail: Pucci’s Fancy Pants

If you want to nail several trends all with one pair of strides, then look no further than these rather fancy pants from Pucci, spotted in their Sloane Street store window. Pajama inspired? Tick. Romantically sheer? Tick. Softly ethnic/ global feeling? Tick. The list goes on.

I can’t say that being that trend versatile is necessarily a good thing as far as these particular trousers are concerned. I personally think they put the ‘loon’ right back into ‘loon pants’…

“Blink” Retail: Matthew Williamson

You know, I’ve never really been a massive Matthew Williamson fan. I did have to think twice about my point of view after being stopped in my tracks outside of his Bruton Street store last week. It was a grey London afternoon and I was nearing the end of my caffeine/ sugar high, considering calling it day as far as work was concerned. I can honestly say that the windows made me feel like I was suddenly stood in a ray of sunshine, lifting my spirits and my flagging energy levels.

As always featuring a broadly ethnic/ global fashionista feel, the styles in the store window were a riot of hot colour along with some stunning detail and really lovely silhouettes. I can’t say that they were super directional, or even that cohesive as a collection, but they did certainly deliver on the ‘feel good’ factor- probably helped along by the beautiful balloons scattered amongst the mannequins.

“Blink” Retail: Mulberry through the eyes of Tim Walker

WE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Spring ’12 Mulberry ad campaign, shot by the amazing Tim Walker, staring Frida Gustavsson and Lindsey Wixson, Brighton Pier and some typical Walker style supersized props. Mulberry have cascaded the theme into their window schemes too. We spotted this huge egg with dippy in soldiers in the window of the Bond Street store. Gorgeous!

“Blink” Retail: Marvellous Miu Miu

The ‘ladylike’ thing seems to be a bit of a theme for “Blink” this week. I’m not quite sure why, but suddenly a little lace glove and a head scarf seems quite the thing to be indulging in right now. Perhaps it’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee having an effect, or a hang over from last year’s Royal Wedding? Whatever it is, Miu Miu have created a rather charming look that’s absolutely Buckingham Palace perfection.

“Blink” SS’12: Rochas rocks our world

I have to say that Rochas isn’t one of the first names that springs to mind when I’m thinking of my favourite labels, or even when I think of the more influential names in the fashion industry. When I spotted this SS’12 show in a couple of the magazine show round ups, I was intrigued and wanted to see more. It was like a wonderfully welcome breath of fresh air during one of my many days spent trawling the show coverage, trying to divine what I’m feeling will evolve into SS’13’s key trends.

Rochas’ artistic director, Marco Zanini described this collection “Like a journey through the vortex of cinema.” Well, if you fall into this particular vortex, you’ll emerge like a Hitchcock heroine who has collided with a large dose of B movie quirkiness. ‘New Look’ silhouettes, refined and classic textile choices, a pastel infused palette and a bonkers floral print were all perfectly accessorised with beehive hairdos and cool, cats eye shades. Well, Mr Zanini, you have a new fan. If I could, I would be a Rochas girl for every day of Spring Summer 2012…

“Blink” style: What to wear for Spring Summer 2012!

So, here we are in 2012. Happy New Year!

It may well be gale force winds out there today, but we are fully committed to wearing the new Spring looks. To be honest, they may be proceeded by some thermals and then a little concealed under a really big coat, but the key thing is that we’ll be wearing them! In our dream shopping basket for Spring’12, these are the looks we would be investing in. Care of the wonderful Style.com, we’ve trawled the shows and come up with our most adored looks to share with you, from Giles, Stella, Isabel, Clements Ribeiro, Louis Vuitton and Burberry. In reality, we’ll be buying maybe one or two posh bits, and the rest will be created through the magic of the brilliant British high street…
