“Blink” Retail: All Aboard the Liberty Express this Christmas

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Some month’s back I was delighted to be invited to the Liberty Press Day. That was pretty much in the midst of Summer time and I am only now feeling mentally ready to admit that Christmas is in fact just around the corner and so I am prepared to share some seasonal joy with you…

Liberty took inspiration from the Victorian age of luxurious steam train travel as well as classic Hollywood movie train moments from the like of ‘Brief Encounter’, ‘Some Like it Hot’ and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’. The Liberty Christmas windows will be transformed into a whole Victorian steam train, bursting with sumptuous and luxurious gift ideas, gold paper chains and festoon lights.

Here’s some highlights from the Christmas Press Day, and let me tell you, if Stella McCartney did an adult version of that super cute bunny onesie, I wouldn’t be wearing anything else for the whole Christmas holidays!

“Blink” Print: Reflective

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Certainly inspired by the brilliant Stella McCartney, but now exploding across the fashion scene, we have been fascinated by all of these brilliantly reflected looking print designs out there. Looking like a mirror has been placed down the centre line of your body, these carefully placed designs create a really graphic impact.

“Blink” Retail: Fashion Prozac, part 1

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

There are two collections out there right now that, for me, are just like rays of fashion sunshine. Let me share them with you one by one, just to stretch the uplifting effects out a bit.

Firstly lets look at Stella‘s amazing resort collection. I do also love what’s to come when the Spring proper collection drops in fully, but until that point my fantasy shopping list is stuffed with these influential and inspirational looks. Loving the reflected style of the print. Adoring the colour and pattern combinations. I want to actually disappear into that palm fringed scene, but in lieu of that, slipping one of these looks on would do very nicely.

“Blink” style: What to wear for Spring Summer 2012!

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

So, here we are in 2012. Happy New Year!

It may well be gale force winds out there today, but we are fully committed to wearing the new Spring looks. To be honest, they may be proceeded by some thermals and then a little concealed under a really big coat, but the key thing is that we’ll be wearing them! In our dream shopping basket for Spring’12, these are the looks we would be investing in. Care of the wonderful Style.com, we’ve trawled the shows and come up with our most adored looks to share with you, from Giles, Stella, Isabel, Clements Ribeiro, Louis Vuitton and Burberry. In reality, we’ll be buying maybe one or two posh bits, and the rest will be created through the magic of the brilliant British high street…

“Blink” Print: Spot On

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

You know things must be tough out there when the mid season sales seem to start before the season has even got under way, and the stores are rolling out Christmas windows before we’ve even had Halloween. At times like this, its a comfort to have elements in your collection that are ‘safe bets’. As a shopper, these will provide you with a bit of an extended fashion moment, so no need to panic that you’ll be over it before you’ve got some wear out of your purchase. One of the ‘safe bets’ that we absolutely love is the spotted print look. We were tired of seeing a sea of stripes (another super safe commercial option) and so this has provided us with a much needed distraction. Working from the catwalk interpretations from inspirational brands like Stella McCartney, right down the fashion food chain to the good old high street. If you’re not dotty about a simple polka dot, you can swap in stellar stars or why not go kitsch and quirky, replacing your spots with mini motifs like hearts or even animals?

Blink Retail: Bright Lights, Big City

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

If I fancy a bit of high end retail therapy I have a special route that fulfills all of my desires. My journey takes me from Liberty, cutting through Hanover Square across to Bond Street, then into Bruton Street, a flit across Berkeley Square and into Mount Street, then a stroll up South Audley Street and the final destination is Selfridges. Its a walk past some of the highlights of international fashion, incorporating some of my favourite names. You can say hello to Martin, Stella, Marc and Matthew as you decide whether you are thinking new shoes, frock or handbag- or perhaps all three?

This week I used the excuse of avoiding Oxford Street and headed on my therapeutic route. When I reached Mount Street, I was struck by the store windows. Some of the brightest and boldest that I had seen- and a joy that they were bereft of ‘final price slash sale bonanza’ signs. Grand scale and lots of wattage seemed to be the order of the day.

Blink Inspiration: Flowers for Stella

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

We were out and about in town yesterday, feeling a bit schizophrenic with the sale stock looking so, well, old I suppose and the new season collections looking oh so freshly tempting. It makes such sense to snap up some amazing sale bargains- especially considering that its still the depths of Winter and will probably remain frigidly cold for at least the next three months, but all I really wanted was new season gorgeousness, along with the promise of sunshine and blue skies that it holds.

Liberty was the best for us as far as showcasing new season collections. We fell in love with the Stella McCartney resort/ early Spring collection all over again (the first time being when we drooled over the show shots on Style.com). The simplicity of silhouette, the structure, the delicious combination of texture and pattern- specifically the stunning, grand scale floral prints and the boldly blue, broderie anglais style lace. Here are a few shots for you, to share the joy and bring you a little ray of Spring sunshine.

Blink Events: Chritmas Lights

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

So, its all about Christmas right across the London retail scene. Its a festive frenzy of spangly lights and that Wham CD gets dusted off so that we can all hum along to ‘Last Christmas’ as we contemplate the joys of buying for others versus more self gifting!

I thought I’d share the Christmas joy with you via some shots of my favourite Christmas retail looks. On the whole, the high street and department stores seem to have gone for high kitsch this time around, but I have managed to unearth some slightly more tasteful options…

Enjoy and sending you Santa shaped Christmas best wishes!

Colour Palettes- Monochromia

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Throughout the last of the summer reports, and now in the Autumn editions, monochrome has been a really clear colour direction. As shown in the images here, it stretches from casual looks into super formal affairs. The pure lack of colour creates a really graphic look with striking contrasts. It’s an ideal antidote to all the retro brights, and also creates the perfect inter-seasonal statement.
