“Blink” Retail: Selfridges gets Reflective

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

We spotted this very clever theme in Selfridges’ designer womenswear department. What a cute way to label the mannequins and then the blown up version of the compact looks really striking too. Never short on innovation in product or display, Selfridges are looking really outstanding just now, and this also subtly reflects (ahem…) their current focus on the concept of beauty with the Beauty Project.

“Blink” Retail: J’adore Dior SS’14

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Dior brings the amazing flora draped set of the SS’14 show to their windows. Such a fabulous show. Such a stunning collection. And now one of the most beautiful window schemes that we’ve seen in some time.

Here’s the video of the SS’14 show so you can appreciate the atmosphere of the show space, as well as this amazing collection. We are huge Raf Simons fans. How he combines the handwriting of Dior with his own aesthetic, plus ensuring it feels utterly innovative and current, is a design dream come true.

“Blink” Retail: Louis Vuitton at Selfridges

Louis Vuitton in Selfridges

This Selfridges window scheme was designed by Louis Vuitton, featuring their product alongside these stools from Cassina. I’m not sure what it represents but as a symmetry addict I find it very pleasing, and I also like how it frames their lovely twirly lift too.

“Blink” Travels: Always Merci…

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013

We popped over to Paris last week, and as usual, my first stop was Merci. Have a look here if you’d like to catch up with our previous love letters to our favourite store in the whole Universe…

This time around Merci was dedicated to celebrating Paris, and why not? In it’s very own creative and quirky way the stop was filled with gorgeously graphic,  Paris themed displays. There were tables of city guides, Eiffel Towers all over the place, as well as all sorts of cool Paris maps. All tres fabulous.

“Blink” Retail: LV goes Jurassic

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

I have no idea why they have chosen this scheme featuring golden dinosaur skeletons for the Bond Street Louis Vuitton store, but they are fabulous never the less. If anyone knows of a deeper message behind this look, do share. Thanks!

“Blink” Retail: Fabulous Fendi

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

We spend a lot of time hanging around the shops in the name of work. It’s a hard life but someone’s got to do it! One of my favourite moments when out retailing is spotting new window schemes. I have to say that the majority of fashion retailers do a very, very good job.  Not all, but most deliver something quite entrancing and inspirational and those are the ones we like to share with you.

The favourite from the last outing is this from Fendi. Looking like cubes made from melted down Fendi hardware, these look really wonderfully precious, like designer gold bullion! Fendi is a brand that we think doesn’t quite score the style headlines that it deserves, perhaps overshadowed by other labels with a similar graphic look, like Celine. Well, it pays to recall that this is yet another collection created under the auspices of the very hard working Karl Lagerfeld, and deserves appreciation as an Italian label that has a really strong handwriting that is very, very different to what we’ve come to expect from high end Italian brands in general. It’s not just about great handbags, although we wouldn’t say no to a couple of those should anyone be asking…

“Blink” Retail: It’s Christmas!

Monday, December 10th, 2012

Wondering down Sloane Street last week, there was no doubt that it is well and truly now Christmas. We are, at least, actually in December now so that does feel something we do have to get our heads around. Helping us to get into the festive mood was this wonderful shopfront display from Jimmy Choo. Jimmy’s got balls, and lots of very shiny silver ones at that…

“Blink” Retail: It’s Christmas!

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Another look at Sloane Street’s rather glamorous take on Christmas. This time it’s a little insight into what Dolce and Gabbana‘s Christmas spread will look like. Well, this is like a standard Friday night supper round mine, to be honest…

Love, pass me another pomegranate and a bun would you?

“Blink” Retail: Ding Dong, Selfridges!

Friday, November 16th, 2012

Selfridges know how to put on a good show, and this Christmas it’s a show of their Christmas campanology skills. The tall atrium space has been filled with a series of huge, glossy bells that move up and down while ringing out festive chimes. It is really lovely and very atmospheric. Not too schmaltzy, but striking the perfect note (urgh) between sweet and chic.

“Blink” Retail: Selfridges gets Acne

Friday, November 9th, 2012

Selfridges have been slowly but surely overhauling their fashion floors, and the transformation is almost done. Before the changes, Selfridges was already a fabulous fashion destination- but now it’s a superior style shopping hot spot!

When I popped in yesterday I was delighted to spy some more changes on the 3rd floor. Acne now have a gorgeous dedicated space. It’s a plush, yet minimalist spot. There’s not a huge amount of product, but that in fact makes it feel even more appealing and innovative. It feels like a gallery space rather than the, perhaps more normal ‘sales per square foot’ driven experience. I guess that also reflects the fact that, although Acne is not ultra high end, the price level and handwriting is still pretty aspirational. Beautiful.
