“Blink” Streetstyle: Westfield Celebrates FNO and AW’12

Friday, September 7th, 2012

So, we couldn’t round up this Autumn Winter ’12 trend review without looking at what the best dressed boys are wearing. Westfield London have identified ‘Mr Dandy’ as their key menswear look for Autumn Winter ’12 and it was a treat to spot so many well dressed men at the Vogue’s FNO event last night, the first day of Westfield’s ‘Fashion Weekend’ in celebration of the launch of Autumn Winter ’12.

‘Mr Dandy’ is a super smart, well put together look featuring sports jackets or suits, bow ties, pocket squares and a clever balance of smart elements with a casual feel. Thanks again to everyone who stopped for us to shoot them and to the stores who let us shoot, especially Reiss who had a particularly stylish band of shop assistants last night.

“Blink” Streetstyle: Westfield Celebrates FNO and AW’12

Friday, September 7th, 2012

After ‘Metallics’ and ‘Gothic’, last night at Westfield London, we spotted a couple of great ‘Print’ looks, working a strongly digital, graphic, photo realistic or linear feel. Many of the new crop of brilliant London based Designers have a very strongly print driven handwriting, so it’s great to see this translating in to streetstyle.

So, after our look at metallics at Westfield London, in celebration of their Fashion Weekend event, we now move on to the next trend that’s looking very strong for Autumn, and that is ‘Gothic’. Featuring lots of leather, black on black, studs, fur, lace and a slightly punk attitude. Thanks again to everyone who stopped for us to shoot them and to all the stores that got involved.

“Blink” Streetstyle: Westfield Celebrates FNO and AW’12

Friday, September 7th, 2012

Last night Westfield London celebrating Vogue’s annual shopping extravaganza, Fashion’s Night Out by throwing its biggest fashion party all in the name of Autumn Winter style, starring mother and daughter model duo Yasmin and Amber Le Bon and Lizzy Jagger in front of a VIP front row. Brands showcasing on the runway include Hugo Boss, Urban Outfitters, House of Fraser and Zara.

This was a spectacular beginning to a 3 day event at Westfield London as the Autumn Winter ’12 fashion season kicks off there in earnest with a wonderful ‘Fashion Weekend’ of further promotions, discounts, freebies and treats.

Westfield’s fashion team have reviewed the AW’12 collections and come up with a few key trends, all of which were featured on the FNO catwalk. For the ladies they have identified ‘Gothic’, ‘Digital Prints’, ‘Metallics’, ‘Burnt Orange’, ‘Gold and Brocade’ as the key looks to rock for Autumn. For the fellas we have the ‘Mr Dandy’ look. Westfield asked me to search out some of these looks being worn by the wonderfully fashion conscious crowd at Westfield last night. Thanks to all of you who stopped for us. Thanks also to the Westfield team, Propellornet, Yellow Door, Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Reiss and COS.

So, starting with the hottest trend we spotted last night, metallics, featuring lots of lovely sequins, metallic finishes and great sparkly accessories…

Blink Events: London Fashion Week, why don’t you…?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Its the run up to London Fashion Week. The excitement is building, as are my wardrobe choices for the event…

I was just reading about Diana Vreeland in the recent US edition of Harpers Bazaar and it inspired me to give you all a bit of a ‘Why Don’t You…?’ list of things you could do in London during LFW. It won’t perhaps be as extravagant as some of Vreeland’s suggestions would have been, but we’ll give it our best shot!

Why don’t you…

have high tea, cocktails or dinner at the stunningly renovated St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

head to Harrods to enjoy the celebration of Chanel, including ‘Une Promenade’ on the 3rd floor- a collection of room sets which all represent different aspects of the brand, its founder and its current creative tour de force, Karl Largerfeld.

Chanel's 'Une Promenade' at Harrods

if you’re attending one of the shows being held at Waterloo’s old Eurostar terminal, why not take a moment to take a walk along the Southbank afterwards, to enjoy some of the best views of London alongside the Thames.

experience the newest retail space in London and head East to the enormous and amazing Westfield Stratford City. You’ll not only be shopping the newest shop fits and retail concepts, you’ll also be within glancing distance of the Olympic Village.

if you don’t have any shows planned for Friday morning, then why not take a step away from London Fashion Week, but also a step towards London Fashion by getting an early shot of inspiration at Portobello Market. Still a key location for vintage, and this is the best day to see it. When you’ve done the market, you can always walk up to Westbourne Grove and Ledbury Road to enjoy a more sedate retail experience in the world class boutiques lining these streets.

fill your boots in Topshop‘s flagship store at Oxford Circus. I know its gone global, but I do believe that there are still some lines that are produced for this store alone, so you can still find something fabulously unique that’s guaranteed not to break the bank either.

have a truly wonderful tea break. You know you deserve one. Yumchaa is our recommendation for tea that is an experience. From choosing from the diverse and eclectic flavours, to which cake you’ll have, to the moment you take your first sip- its all a delight.

have flowers delivered to you at home, your office or your hotel room. Scarlet and Violet is the only name that you need to know. Well, if this florist is good enough for Lily Allen and Kate Moss’s nuptials…

Blink Events: Westfield goes East

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

I’ll start this post by setting my stall out just so we all know where we stand… I’m not a fan of shopping ‘malls’. I’m a high street, small independents, out in the elements kind of girl. When Westfield started its development in Shepherds Bush I felt a little affronted for the small local retailers and nearby shopping destinations, and quite sure that it would be a commercial white elephant. Well, I had to take that back as I started to enjoy the odd swift flit for a late night shop, a quick Toppers fix when it was raining/ snowing outside, a movie and a Wagamama’s combo with the girls. It seems that Westfield has found a place in my retail routine, and I’m a wee bit of a ‘mall’ convert.

So, when I was invited to a pre-opening visit to the bigger, newer, snazzier Westfield in Stratford, I was really quite excited. I went over on Tuesday and was given a very informative catch up on the plans and progress of this behemoth (the biggest mall in Europe) and then a guided tour in amongst the army of hi-vis vested builders all working frantically to finish off for the launch date of 13th September. The viral video has gone live. The ad campaign hit our screens in the middle of Saturday’s X Factor. These guys are gearing up for a mega launch.

There will be around 370 stores, restaurants and bars, two hotels (no doubt all ready booked to the hilt for the Olympics) and a casino. This will be the 120th mall in the Westfield family’s portfolio, and they are not messing about. Serving as a key entrance to the Olympic Park, this mall is not only going to be a destination for is huge East side catchment area, it will also be inundated with Olympic ticket toting visitors for the 2012 games. Westfield have taken this all on board and have integrated many authentic East London rooted elements (concierge outfits designed by East London based Julian J Smith, lighting by local designers, the current pre-launch website celebrating East London), but this is also about stores showcasing their biggest, newest and most glamorous versions of themselves with fabulous new shop-fits and innovative retail concepts.

The team who hosted us feel really passionately about Westfield Stratford, and you can feel a little frisson of competition with their West London sister. The team expressed how different the experience will be at the Stratford Westfield, but I have to say that what I saw (admittedly unfinished) feels really quite similar. This does not take away the fact that this is a massive plus for East London, its incredibly excitingly located, right next to the Olympic Park, and the development is cited as one of the most environmentally efficient in the UK which is fabulous. I’ll be hopping on the London Overground train to see the finished product for sure, and I don’t get on a train for just any old thing.

Thanks to the team who looked after us so well, from Westfield and Propellornet. See you on the 13th!
