The cryptic title seemed a good way to describe this selection of streetstyle shots of the London Fashion Week stylistas. There were some great variations on the classic all black looks, rocking striking textural layering and innovative silhouettes, but we were also struck by the high contrast looks that broadly come under the ‘monochrome’ banner. So, now you see where the title is all about? Shaggy fur or fluttery feathers counterbalanced glossy leathers or dense, matte wool velours. Crisp lines of tailoring interplay with strikingly graphic print and pattern. Colour blocked coats and accessories look really fresh (thanks Zara and Topshop for some great options!), especially when working cream or neutral and black instead of stark white.
Key to keeping this looking interesting, we think, is the combination of layering textures plus a pop of contrast and bold accessories. Black looks clean and tailored in many of these looks, which for us is the key direction for Autumn Winter 2010 and into Spring Summer 2011. There is a new minimalist mood in the air, which blends perfectly with a renewed love for ladylike creating a fresh aesthetic that is both soft and strong.
